SOOOOOOOOOO Many undeserved Emmys! Which was the worst?
Of course you gotta put up at the top David Hyde Pierce, one-note closet queen actor. Come out of the closet David, you're not going to get another job anyway!

What about Kelsey Grammar, another one-noter doing the same thing without any flair for almost 20 years and they still honor him. He's an axis of evil unto himself--coke fiend, child molestor, and Republican!

Sarah Jessice Parker really isn't much of an actress, but her win was not a surprise. Her competition was pretty bad, with the exception of Jane Kaczmarek, who has been robbed for five years now.

And I can't believe James Spader won! Why? Because he actually deserved to!

2. I think they need to have off years where you can't win...
I think if someone wins one year they should not be able to win the next year. I mean what do they gain? They've already been recognized for their work. What is the purpose of needing to be "two time" or "three time" emmy winner? You've already acheived the highest honor for your profession, in that medium of work.

Allison Janney winning was a pretty lame choice as well.

At least David Hyde Pierce aknowledged that the other actors deserved it over him. I thought his line "Well, that's not what I would have gone with, but...o.k." was fairly clever given the obviousness of the situation.

5. Becasue if you're the best, you're the best.
I don't care if you win 20 times in a row. It's not a real victory if someone else was not allowed to compete, becasue they "won it last year."

11. Who was the guy from Night Court who took himself out of the running
after winning four years in a row? Let's face it, it's all subjective, and other people probably deserve their time in the spotlight. That was a very generous thing for him to do!

Oh--John Laroquette!

3. lol.....James Spader, a genuine underdog/odd ball
Did you see that commercial ABC ran prior to his winning? A promo for 'Boston Legal' that congratulated his winning the Emmy, but "only if they (ABC) had any say so". :tinfoilhat: :P

Was Meryl Streep stoned?

12. Whenever Meryl wins (and it's usually undeserved) she seems stoned...
...she has absolutely no control or presence for anything live.

Didn't see Angels--only part of it--I should sit down and see the whole thing. But she really was dreadful in it--but hey, she's got a reputation and they vote on that!

27. Are you kidding me?
She is effing brilliant and has great presense. Her comic timing was impecable last night during her acceptance.

She is one of the great actresses of our time and deserves every bit of credit she gets. There are only a handful of actresses who compare to her. Vanessa Redgrave, Emma Thompson, Jane Fonda, Katherine Hepburn ...that's about it. There are others with the potential for greatness but their body of work doesn't put them near her category.

29. I actually didn't see that--I was referring to other awards shows she's
been on.

And no, I wasn't kidding. She is the most over-rated ham in Hollywood today. Never have I seen her give a believable performance--always stiff, mannered, and never has shown good timing.

Sorry, I know she' the most liberal actress around, but she's still a hack.

4. The Emmys seemed to reward lifetime achievement this year
(except for Arrested Development, which was a very pleasant surprise).

Frasier, Sex in the City...cancelled. Sopranos...almost done. Alison Janney...show's dying.

6. James Spader is incredibly
sexy and weirdly smart/funny. I hope the new show is as good as his time on The Practice. He made that show worth watching this past season.

15. Agreed ... Sparder is weirdly hot
I missed his stint on The Practice but a friend filled me in, I'm kicking myself for missing it/him.

One of my favorite Spader movie appearances was in the movie Wolf with Nicholson and Pfeiffer--he upstaged everyone!

26. My friend Jack and I watched The Practice every week
After Spader came on the show, it was so much fun to see what bizarre thing he would do next. He would be outrageous and we would die laughing.

I miss Jack so much. I have no one to watch that show with anymore. (or any other show for that matter)

23. Third that--James Spader has been hot since Pretty in Pink!
He was WAY hotter than that Blaine dork!

He was also especially delicious in Secretary.

Missed most of his shows on The Practice, but excited for his new show. What a great comeback story.

8. I have read about David Hyse Pierce being in a long term
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 09:47 AM by peach720
relationship with a man. So I guess he is out, but he is a private man and I respect that, I love his work on Frasier, for me he always stole the show.

I am thrilled that Cynthia Nixon won best supporting comedy actress,
Miranda was always my favorite in SATC. I always thought that she was the only real actress in that show, and a talented one too.

I am always happy to see Allison Janney win too, the only win for the TWW,showing that you don't need special "made of a Emmy" episodes to win. She won by consisent and varied acting which is always exellent. The show maybe in trouble but Allison Janney is still one of the best actresses on TV, she did deserve to win.

10. My problem with Cynthia Nixon is that she's NOT funny!
I'm not a big fan of SATC, but I can see she's a good actress. But this is supposed to be the category for comedic actresses, and there should be a difference. She's not doing drama on SATC, she's supposedly doing comedy, and she just isn't funny! It's the way her character is supposed to be, which is more the show's fault.

16. Not true Cynthia Nixon is funny.....
but in SATC, it was always sardonic, cynical humour which she blended with drama. Like Miranda's wedding, her dislike of fuss and discomfort on her honeymoon, the move to Brooklyn etc, was funny and well observed too. She is versitile, I have always felt in the shadow of SJP and Kim Cattrel, she has been under-rated and the most talented in the show.

19. I'm still going to disagree with you--and anyway, I was never a fan of
SATC--you'd think that being gay I would be. Alas, no. The worst part of the show was the writing, though.

9. I don't watch enough TV to know
but I didn't even know James Spader was on a TV show, and that makes me sad, because I would like to have seen that. Just another time I'll have to watch the re-runs of another good show I didn't see.

I wish SJP hadn't won, though, just because she annoys me.

17. With all due respect, I think you're being a bit harsh on Pierce.
I think the voters gave David Hyde Pierce (and Kelsey Grammer) Emmys because this was the last year of "Fraser"

David Hyde Pierce is a talented actor. And I think he isn't in the closet. And he does have something coming up...he's appearing in "Spamalot", the musical based on "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". I'm looking forward to seeing it here in Chicago in a few months. :-)

Who else will be in the musical? I recall reading about that a while ago. Too bad the Pythons themselves are way too old (or dead) to star in it themselves!

I know Eric Idle is one of the driving forces behind it. Not sure if the other remaining Pythons are involved in it. :-)

25. Now those two guys are One-der-ful! Eric is really into music, so it
doesn't surprise me that he's involved. It could be good. But part of the charm of the movie was it really was "pure" Python. I mean, it was just like the show--lots of bizarre moments that didn't seem to fit, but turned out hilarious, stream of consciousness stuff. Life of Brian was great, but that was more like a regular movie.

Wonder if they'll capture this in the musical.

20. Oh, and what about MTM and Carroll O'Connor and Lucy? They NEVER
got EMMYs in their last years for their portrayal of timeless, classic characters, not for portraying one-note hacks. You're right that they got EMMYS because it's their last season, but it's not because they deserve it or anything.

I'm willing to put up with all the other stuff, because that overrated show and the "great acting" on it didn't win any awards.
I'm sure they're all nice people, though.

30. These categories, imo:
Lead Actor, Comedy
Lead Actress, Comdey
Supp. Actor, Comedy
Supp. Actress, Comdey
Lead Actress, Drama (Janney is good but enough already)

Of the TV-movie,miniseries, I didn't seen enough of them to give my opinion.
