1. Caffiene's addictive, and there's even some in decaf.
Yep. It's quite possible. Plenty of people get headaches on weekends because they only drink coffee at work and don't realize they're going through withdrawal.

10. Psychologically at least
but physically? I doubt it.

And it certainly depends on the quality of the coffee...

http://pharmrev.aspetjournals.org/cgi/content/full/51/1/83#SEC6_2

the worst part of my 10 hour gut op was the absence of coffee two days before and 3 days after..the link here clicks into the middle of a UK study on caffeine addiction, psychological AND physical...it's the part about human addiction and withdrawal.

26. It causes withdrawal symptoms
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 01:58 PM by ze_dscherman
I can testify that, been through it three months ago. More than a week of baaad headaches, tiredness, irritability. But it doesn't cause the craving one gets when quitting nicotine - only slightly so, and none left.

But I've been drinking quite a lot of coffee/tea - about 5-7 cups a day ...

On edit: But I can testify I feel way better without. No more ups and downs and less tiredness, and hardly ever a headache (I frequently had minor to medium headaches when I drank coffee). Blood pressure is better, and I feek calmer as well. Definitely worth the loss of the short term kick I enjoyed when I drank it ...

28. You can now get caffeine in your IV pre-op. Ask for it if they don't offer
When I had my tonsils out 2 years ago, they asked me if I wanted caffeine in my IV.

I said "Hallelujah," and nominated them for a Nobel Prize.

18. me too
but I drink so little, it is not a big deal.

Hey Chavez, how are ya? Have a nice weekend? We had a flood and 5 inches of rain in one day where I live, so it was bad for a lot of people. I live on a big hill myself, from which an ark could be launched, so I was spared.

12. Every time I've quit I've weaned myself off it gradually
and taken Tylenol for the headaches.

I had to quit permanently now because of acid reflux. Now I drink Postum for the psychological effect, which actually works pretty good.

15. Yes!
But it is possible to break the caffeine addiction. You will feel better, believe me. Switch to tea (has 1/2 the caffeine), and then you can gradually wean yourself off of the tea.

17. Absolutely.
One of my greatest fears about pregnancy would be giving up coffee. For me it would be tougher than alcohol. That's a few years off for me though.

21. you don't need to give it up
coffee when your pregnant, that is, you just need to keep it to a cup or so a day and no more. least, thats what the story was when i was pregnant. of course, the offspring is in high school now, so that may be old news, but i don't think the guideline has changed.

22. Yes, Coffee and DU.
Goes together like Peanut Butter & Jelly.

I am planning on quitting any day now (seriously - coffee, not DU) It really messes up my stomach.

24. I think it's possible to be addicted to coffee 'cause when you don't drink
then you get all shaky but when you drink it the shakies go away unless you drink too much, and then you get all shaky again and then you can't drink it 'cause it sloshes out of the cup and onto your hand and oyu have ot take a break from drinking so you can cool off your hand and once you're done the coffee's cold and who want sot drink cold coffee? I mean iced coffee is okay, but there's big difference between iced coffee and room temperature gross coffee, so you have ot make a fresh pot, and that takes a while, and then you get shaky again and you have to drink Mountain Dew or Jolt or something liek that, and it's just not hte same, and then drinking hot coffee after cold Mountain dew YUK, and then you need to drink a second cup to get rid of the nasty taste form the first one, and then you've gone and ODed again, and you get all shaky and this time you drop the whole pot on the floor and then you have to clean it up and by the time you're done and have another pot brewing youve fallen asleep cause you've been awake for 27 hours straight and you fall aslee on the kitchen floor and the coffee starts to boil and after two hours youre still asleep and the pot has boiled dry and it braeaks and the noise wakes you up and youve so totally crashed that youi look at the broken, smoking coffee maker and dont comprehend it and lie back down on th kitchen floor and fall asleep while your kitchen catches fire and the fire department comes and they drag you out but your house burns down and that would stink. Twice.
