7. Sure
As long as I get to fix it up a bit. You know? Add cable, get a sauna, build a wet bar....that should do it.

8. Voted 'yes' because
I don't think I'd want to fix it up via Home Depot; I'd rather restore it by some other means. But I think it could be lovely.

9. Is this Boo Radley's house?
I think I would prefer living in the tree.

BTW, my husband was in real estate for many years and they called houses that looked like this "Radleys."

but damn! What a cool photo! Looks like Northern or Central California. Makes me homesick.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing that this morning! :hi:

11. Live in? Sure. Pay money for? Not so much.
Condemned houses can be especially bad money pits as "fixer uppers."

13. Abandoned houses make me so sad. I always wonder
what their history is, and if they were home to happy or unhappy families and where they went.

17. Asbestos?
Why do I get the impression that place is full of stuff that is very expensive to get rid of?

26. You can get rid of asbestos yourself, or you can just seal it in
Quite a bit of the asbestos hype in houses is scare tactics, and the removal teams only wear the bunnysuits because they are constantly exposed to it. Anybody with a $30 respirator, a sharp construction knife, a good pair of gloves, and a lot of patience can remove their own asbestos (you just slice it into clean chunks and remove it without stirring up a lot of dust). When you're finished, a shopvac with a HEPA filter can clean up any dust.

For those too scared to go that route, there are easy spray on chemicals that encapsulate the asbestos in a plastic compound to prevent it from breaking and creating a health hazard.

This bigger danger in a house like this, believe it or not, is actually lead based paint. Asbestos is relatively easy to deal with, but lead based paint will cover every square inch of both the interior and exterior of the houses, AND it will be absorbed into the topsoil surrounding the house in great quantities. Stripping and repainting a house that size is a time consuming end expensive proposition whether you do it yourself or hire outside help.

in - reminds me of "The Money Pit".

25. I spent two years looking for a house just like that
A classical fixer upper in a country location with a beautiful view. I finally got tired of searching and bought a xerox home in suburbia :(

Where is that anyway?
