Okay bird watchers - just what the hell is this thing? (pic)
At first I thought I was seeing my cat in a tree, which isn't unusual for him, it flew away moments after I took this crappy picture...

1. That, my dear, is an owl! You lucky dog! I've never seen one in the
daytime. I've only heard them hooting at night. He's beautiful, too.

4. A young hawk?
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 11:44 AM by XNASA
It doesn't look like an owl. It's head isn't large enough. But sitting in a tree like that, is something that owls do.

5. Looks like a hawk to me too.
His head doesn't look broad enough to be an owl.

Have you ever seen a hawk at work? I watched one terrorize a squirrel here in downtown... the squirrel did get away though (too many people)

22. We have a resident Redtail here in University City,
otherwise known as Philadelphia's Left Bank.

Lives on pidgeons, mostly. I interrupted her lunch, once.

18. Those guys never smile
But I have seen them playfully chase crows and Squirrels so I suspect they have a sense of humor. :-) This particular little guy may be hungry though.

23. The owl guess was good, considering how he is perched, but
he looks very much like a hawk to me, probably a kestrel.

Can't really tell from this photo.
