The game actually allows gay marriage. It allows same sex couples to adopt children. It even allows for public fornication :)

How long 'til Pat Robertson blames it for the downfall of society? :)

1. OOOHhhhh, I have a goody for you
Take a close look at the bookcases. Bill Clinton is on the cover of one:

You can't see it in the screenshot, I'm afraid, but it comes across very clearly in-game. :)

2. I wish my machine could run it.
The original Sims allows same-sex couples to adopt kids but doesn't allow for same-sex marriage, just shacking up. However there are many, many fan-made hacks floating around which lets gay Sims get married. Why, just the other day in my Smallville house, Lex and Clark got married in the barn. :P

One of the things that I really like about The Sims is that Sims are inherently bisexual. I thought it was really cool of Maxis to allow players to hook up their Sims however they want to. Then again Will Wright seems like a progressive kind of guy.

3. I had forgotten how addicting Maxis games are :)
I haven't played one since Sim City 2000. They really suck you in :)

9. They're crack in a box!
I always say, if you really want to do something about the drug problem in this country, arrest Will Wright and Sid Meier. ;)

The bizarre thing about Maxis games is that they take concepts that, on paper, sound like the most boring things in the world and turn them into something you have to be pulled away from. I mean, think about it: who on earth would think a game about urban planning and development could be that freaking fun? And yet every time I connect a road to a residential area and I see the little cars go by I break out into giggle fits.

I think The Sims is actually 100 times more addicting than the other Sim games because it's more personal. You get so wrapped up in their lives it's almost scary. I have one Sim in a little bachelor pad, and one time he kept calling up various friends to ask them over but everyone was busy or didn't want to come by, and I felt so bad for the little guy. He ended up ordering pizza and watching TV by himself. :(

17. Yeah I remember when I first played The Sims 1. I bought it on a Friday
and started playing at 6pm that afternoon. Next thing I know it's 8am Saturday but it was worth it

11. Thanks for the info, but there's one thing they don't tell you
The Sims 2 installer has a nasty little bit of blacklist code in it that checks your machine to see if you have Alcohol 120% (a very useful CD-imaging/burning program) and Daemon Tools (a virtual CD drive utility that allows you to mount disk images) installed. If you do, The Sims 2 won't install. I understand the need for it due to the fact that Alcohol and DT are like the #1 tools for people who download warez because it helps them get around copy protection, but I use them to make legit backup copies of games I've purchased ever since my little cousin scratched up one of my Planescape: Torment install CDs. Also, I have to use Daemon Tools to play NWN off my hard drive, because Atari forced Bioware to put a really messed up copy protection scheme on Neverwinter Nights that actually renders the discs unreadable in certain CD drives, the one in my PC being one of the unlucky models. So I paid $50 for a game I had to crack to get to work. :eyes: Now, I can't very well uninstall these two programs I have to choose between The Sims 2 and my other games. As big a Sims addict as I am, I'll just stick with the first one for now.

The thing that makes me mad about this copy protection stuff is that it doesn't stop the warez people--they will find a way to pirate things, and it's only a matter of time before they find ways around the schemes. It's the people who actually legitimately purchase stuff who end up getting screwed.

8. Sure, but that has gratuitous violence, which is fine by the standards
of the religious right. :)

This has gay sex, so is a threat to all Americans and our very societies moral fiber :)

10. Ah, but this game...
has gratuitous violence being committed by a black gangsta.

Which is a whole different can of worms then the Italian mob.

12. LOL!
But the great thing about the GTA games is that everyone is a thug. I can't think of a single ethnic group that wasn't made fun of either in GTA3 or Vice City. I'm not sure about San Andreas because I have deliberately tried to keep myself as spoiler-free as possible, but I'm sure Rockstar's grand legacy of pissing everyone off will continue.

16. Yeah it's gonna ruffle some feathers but
oh man that game is going to be huge in size. I like that they are equal opportunity offenders. Plus I hope the game has a lot of side missions for the various locales ( I loved the Crazy Taxi type missions from the previous games III and Vice City ) as well as a large number of distinct radio stations. The radio stations is one of the features I like in the games.

Back to topic, I wish I could play The Sims 2 but my computer doesn't have the horsepower but soon I will play it. I can't wait to download and import stuff that people have created.

20. Hehe I know what you mean
Sometimes I think I spend more time downloading objects and skins for The Sims than actually playing the game.

Have you ever been to Sims Showcase? It's my favorite site because they surf the different Sims sites and let you know when people have updated and show you the new stuff so you can download it. They also clearly label the paysites. It's fantastic, one stop shopping for my habit. :)

http://www.strategyplanet.com/thesims/simsshowcase/index.htm

For various reasons (see upthread) I am holding off on Sims 2, but mainly because I want to wait until there is more fan stuff made for it. My fun playing the Sims comes from sticking skins of various video game/tv/movie characters in it and watching the wackiness that ensues. I've got a house with Tommy Vercetti, Mercedes Cortez, Ricardo Diaz and Candy Suxxx in it. Candy is a Superstar of course, and Tommy and Diaz are on the Life of Crime career track. One of the funniest things I ever saw in The Sims was Mercedes at a party, dancing in the cage to one of the Love Fist songs (I stick tons of MP3s in my Sims folder), while Tommy was scratching records on the DJ booth.

22. Yeah, my favorite site to get stuff was
7 deadly sims. I think that's where I got my Brauhaus (sp ?) furniture also I had a Mercedes CL600 and an Acura Integra parked outside the house. (yes, I know how superficial of me :) ) .

I didn't keep them though because one night a buglar came and set off the alarm in my house as well as on the cars. The police came and the alarm inside the house shut off but the ones on the cars didn't and it kept waking my sims up. Oh and don't get me started on when they adopted a kid. They camped out in the living room for 3 or so days taking care kid until he grew up. That was hell.

15. There's a fan patch that gets rid of it.
Much like everything else having to do with The Sims, the fans have found a way around it. Blessedly, there's one that only removes it from the adults and keeps it on the kids (which is the one I use). PM me and I can e-mail it to you, it's a pretty small file you stick in your Skins directory.

There's already a fan-made censor-removal patch for The Sims 2, I think.

21. Thanks, but no thanks. I'll stick with it as it is.
Besides, I haven't really got that into 1.

I felt like setting up my in-laws; sister-in-law & her husband, with two daughters.

Funny thing was, the way I set them up, they never clicked (the husband/wife - guess that I shouldn't have tried setting them up initially).
