Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 04:09 PM by Gothic_Sponge
I'm feeling dejected after my spill today. I'm going to Best Buy later. What to buy?

1. I voted for Hitchcock
Fuck George Lucas! He doesn't deserve a dime from you! Sorry, I'm just a bitter, bitter, Star Wars fan.

Now Hitchcock, that's some good stuff. I had no clue about that box set until this thread. It's definitely on my wishlist.

3. I'm a bitter fan too, but i've been waiting years for this release.
I just wish Lucas would leave things alone!

4. LOL
I'm mad it's the "Special Edition" versions, otherwise I would have caved and bought it.

Did you hear about the TV show he wants to do now? And according to Mark Hamill Eps. 7-9 are back on track. Lord help us all.

7. Really, is it only the Special Edition versions?
Why not put both in the pack? I'm glad I still have my laser discs of the originals, along with DVDized copies.

Really 7-9? Let's just hope he doesn't want to direct or write them!

How much is the trilogy pack running?

10. Unfortunately yes
I got all excited about it myself until someone told me it was the "Special Editions". Apparently according to Lucas the original trilogy will never go on DVD. :puke: Thankfully I got some, er, Hong Kong "import DVDs" that were evidently ripped from the old laser disc versions, and those are serviceable.

If you're still interested, Deep Discount DVD, which is where I get all my box sets, has the trilogy pack for $41.88 with free shipping.

I really wish I was lying about ep 7-9. On the bright side, maybe we'll get to see Mara Jade. But something tells me he'll fuck that up too. :(

12. Gah! (and a SW vintage question)
How weird that he wouldn't want the originals available too...

Hey! I have a question that only a Star Wars addict can help me with.

There's a sequence in the first movie where R2-D2 is "interpreting the entire Imperial network". He's plugged in and we see the display and it shows the location of the controls for the tractor beam. Now in the regular version - the one that's on most videos, the laser discs, etc. that have been released in at least the last 10 years, there is an overdub where C-3PO explains what is being displayed. "...blah blah blah, should allow the ship to leave."

Then Obi Wan explains how he must go alone...

Now I only saw the film once in the theaters and then on video off of TV for about a decade before wide release on Video, but I swear that in the original version there was no overdub by C-3PO in that sequence. Maybe it was just cut out of the TV version or maybe I blanked it from my memory.

Any ideas?

On 7-9: Really? You really think he could f*ck them up? What do you base that on? Just because he made the most anticipated film in the history of cinema into the biggest piece of shit ever dumped on an eagerly awaiting public, you don't think that he can pull the rest off? I don't appreciate your extreme pessimism!

13. LOL a fan after my own heart
I can't really help you with your question, I'm afraid. I'm too young to have seen the original version in the theaters (I barely remember seeing Return of the Jedi in the movies as a toddler), and I've ever only seen it on laserdisc or VHS. :(

But oh man the heartache of Crapisode 1. I was one of those nerds in line dressed up in Jedi robes, LOL. I even made it onto the local news (one of those "oh my god would you look at these freaks" reports about the movie :P). That whole thing was just one big WTF to me and it was the day I swore I'd stop giving George Lucas money. Even the Rogue Squadron video games on Gamecube, I buy used. I'm so bitter it's not even funny. :(

14. LOL. I'll have to start a thread about my question...
I saw SW in a drive in when I was 6. I fell asleep, of course, but woke up for the end.

I never saw Empire in the theater, but did see Jedi, which I thought was great at the time.

I feel sorry for you and TPM. I walked out of the theater practically crying it was so bad. So so bad.
