Poll question: OK, it's cult TV time: Favorite monster from KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER?
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 08:56 PM by NightTrain
For a show that ran for just 20 episodes (1974-75), a lot of people are sure familiar with Carl Kolchak. This is due first to a Reagan-era revival on late-night weekend TV, followed by a second revival in the late '90s on the Sci-Fi Channel. Now let's see what DU's favorite Kolchak monster is!

2. Scariest show on television, way ahead of its time...................
I loved Jack the Ripper episode, especially the way Kolchak freaked out and exposed himself to the Ripper AFTER the Ripper failed to discover Kolchak's presence in the house.

4. Yeah, "The Ripper" had one of the show's three scariest climaxes.
The other two, IMO, were "The Vampire," in which Kolchak subdues the monster by setting a 12-foot wooden cross on fire, and "The Zombie." Remember that scene in the hearse when Kolchak is sewing the monster's lips shut, and suddenly its eyes shoot open? Damn, that made me jump!

3. There were only 20 episodes?
I can't choose just one monster- they were all, uh, monsterful. :) Oh, except for that cyborg one- that episode sucked.

5. Well, if you count the two made-for-TV movies, it's 22.

When it first aired in January 1972, "The Night Stalker" became the highest-rated made-for-TV movie ever. A year later, "The Night Strangler" also kicked ass in the ratings, which inspired the series.

7. I forgot about those movies
they rocked also! I vaguely remember an interview with the creator of X-files and I think he said that this show was his inspiration.

6. Can't possibly choose; all of them!
Though Cathy what's her name as the Hecate worshipper had a delightfully camp quality. "Hecate! Hecate!"

Kudos to Chris Carter for a) acknowledging his debt to Kolchak from the outset and b) hiring McGavin to play the old crank who started the X files.

9. That was Kathy Lee Crosby as Helen of Troy.
"The Youth Killer" is generally considered the show's creative low point. Aside from some nice lap dissolves as Helen reverses the aging process, that episode really had nothing going for it.

"The Youth Killer" might have worked as an episode of "Xena: Warrior Princess," but as part of the "Night Stalker" pantheon, it simply doesn't hold up.

10. The mad doctor was played by Richard Anderson...
...a/k/a Oscar Goldman of THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN and THE BIONIC WOMAN.

Boy, am I letting my age show or what? :eyes:

She was the only good looking one. If you had to die what a way to go.
