WTF? Since when is Cat Stevens a threat to national security?
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A plane bound for Washington from London was diverted to Maine on Tuesday after passenger Yusuf Islam -- formerly known as pop singer Cat Stevens -- showed up on a U.S. watch list, federal officials said.

Oh yeah, because he's Muslim.

Last year he released two songs, including a re-recording of his '70s hit "Peace Train," to express his opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq (news - web sites). - thanks yahoo.com

7. If there is a watchlist he's one of the few celebrities that might fit a
celebrity quota for it. Didn't this guy say that the bounty put on Salman Rushdies head was justified?

And no I don't think there'a a celebrity quota for the watchlist.

10. And didn't Jerry Swaggert
just call for the same thing for homosexuals?

I don't see preacher Jerry denied air travel for being a terrorist.

out that him "just being a muslim" was a bit overstating the case. The guy has to be clearly very offensively nutty in his religious believes to sympathize with the murder warrent of an author. He's a douchebag with his beliefs and so is Jimmy Swaggert. Amd O don't think the danger we face from Christian extremists in our air travel is anywhere near that of Muslim extremists.

If there is a watchlist, and I'd have to learn more about it in order to say whether I agree with it's existence or how it's being generally implemented, some people who could be Muslim extremists are going to be overly scrutinized even if ther isn't solid proof that they are extreme, because Muslim extremists don't carry around a meter displaying their level of psychosis/hatred.

14. Still not true. This being the Internet, you can look it up
before making statements that have many, many times been refuted. Try it maybe.

20. "Makes you wonder about this watch list....."
not at all Trish (BTW welcome to DU )
Let's see, Nancy Oden, a Green Party USA coordinating committee member in November 2001, Sen. Ted Kennedy Appeared on "No-Fly" List in August 2004, and an unknown number of unnamed people whose racial profiles can only be guessed at by us. I don't wonder about it at all...i think it's pretty gd obvious...
