And Cat Stevens crime is ????
Curious to know what other than being a muslim anti war activist, might cause him to be deported.

Have one of his cd's playing right now, listen to it all the time. But then my daughter tells me I never listen to the music of anyone who didn't die from a drug overdose. See Katie, your wrong. LOL.

9. By the way J. Edgar Hoover had all those files on Movie stars
Maybe Ashcroft is doing the same thing. People used to laugh and say Hoover knew all the sex life of every one.

He's a massive hypocrite.

7. No
Not "right now". He has commited no crimes as far as I know. The only crime is that he is on a list.

No I don't think changing your name and giving up a gifted talent is a crime. Kind of a "tongue-in-cheek" comment on my part but I still believe that giving in to a dictatorial doctrine, of any religion, is koo koo. Especially one that forbids his style of music.

An avowed Muslim who advocates "peace"! There is nothing more sinister than that! Peace loving Muslims around the world should learn a lesson from this. Don't try to get into this country singing about all this "Peace Train" crap, you' be turned away at the border.

12. That is a great song, one of my all time favorites...
As for Stevens, I guess people will always fin a way to hate. I know a guy that loved Streisand's voice, then found out she was a Jew, and decided he hated her, go figure?

Ignorance and intolerance will always be with us, the best we can do is confront it and pare it down it a bit.

Charlie Pride didn't have his pic on album covers for years, they said he couldn't sell a record if people knew he was black. I don't care what color he is, he can sure carry a tune w/that voice.

One of my all time favorites, Nat King Cole, couldn't get a sponsor, because he was black, and his TV show got pulled; but I think he had more talent in his little finger than any ten "pop" stars today. I still have some vinyl from him, and he can bring tears to my eyes w/that voice, (Natalie is damn good too).....:)

You want to know who supports terror? Everyone who buys a gallon of gas or a quart of oil; how come that is never mentioned?

17. Making shitty music: Major Crime
He has always sucked, long before he succumbed to monotheistic psychosis. The worst of the early 70's 'folk-pop' singer-songwriters. Makes James Taylor look good by comparison.

19. I can't disagree with this...
...allegedly, he's been funding Islamic extremists and was deported from Israel for that.

Maybe he didn't, I don't know. But what I DO know, is he moved out of America and joined a religion that is at war with us (not necessarily in that order). That doesn't make him guilty or even make him guilty by association.

But if we want to put a stop from these illegal wars, we need to protect our borders. And it seems to me, there is no benefit at putting ourselves at this type of risk right now.

On one hand, we don't want to invade likely terrorist countries. But then, we don't want to beleive the bad guys we find here are bad. This is a no-win situation for somebody no matter what we do. And who loses this one? The muslim accused of terroristic behavior who doesn't live in our country any longer. If someone has to lose to help make us safer, why not him?

Is Cat Stevens a bad guy? According to previous history - right or wrong - yes. So, get rid of the trouble we don't need right now.

In a perfect world, this might be completely unacceptable. In today's world, people are trying to kill us and our children. We need to do something different. Invading soveriegn nations isn't the answer. Being strict at our borders is much better.

22. Whoa dude, your sheet is showing here
". . .joined a religion that is at war with us " And exactly which religion would that be? Islam? Sorry friend, but Islam is not at war with us, just as Christianity isn't at war with Iraq. Trying to make a crusade out of wars will only cause more damage and death. Or do you actually believe the myth of "Islamofacism", whatever that is.

A bit of truth for you, the religious sect that bin Laden follows, Wahibism, was created, fostered and nutured by the CIA, starting way back in the '80s, when we fully embraced bin Laden and his mujahadeen as "freedom fighters". A bit more truth for you, Iraq under Hussein was one of the most secular ME countries to be found.

And have you ever met with any Muslims? Gotten to know them on a personal level? Studied their religion and believes? Or do you just believe the propoganda spewed out by Faux news and Rush?

So here you are, basing your arguement on bias and spin. Not really a logical, nor practical thing to do. It is that kind of mindset that starts pre-emptive, illegal and immoral wars. You know, the kind of wars that turn the rest of the world against the US, seeing us for the ugly monsters we are, driven by misplaced religious zealotry.

So what did Cat do that was so bad? He became a fundementalist Muslim. Is that a crime? If so, then people who are fundementalist Christians are as equally criminal, if not more so. The number of terrorist attacks committed by fundie christians is higher than that committed by fundie Muslims. Do you condemn them also? Are do you just have a jingoistic, xenophobic fear of "ferriners"

I would suggest you do a bit more research on these topics, maybe even get to know some Muslims. I think that you would be quite suprised at how much we all have in common.

getting booted. Yeah, that nasty freedom of speech that Rushdie enjoyed was the same freedom that allowed "Cat Abdullah" to make millions. What a twit.

23. He since said he was quoted out of context
He claimed reporters asked him the technical question of what it took for an imam to declare a fatwa, and he gave the technically correct answer.

I'm not sure I buy that explanation, however. Why else would it have been an issue at the time? At best, the artist formerly known as Cat was unbelievably naive.

But his real crime was not quitting while he was ahead. Tea for the Tillerman is a lovely album, "Peace Train" is a cool song, but it was all downhill from there.
