12. I've got one called Witness

and it is bloody marvellous. A fairly large ensemble, usually nine pieces, including a mallet percussionist (I love mallets), and it sounds sorta like the Birth of the Cool band after heavy exposure to the Knitting Factory. And the compositions are named after various political dissidents throughout the world, whose issues are mentioned in the liner notes. Very worthwhile CD.

and I'll have to check it out. I love mandolin-- play it myself, some.

Last mandolin record I got was the Modern Mandolin Quartet (I think) doing excerpts from Tchaikovski's Nutcracker and some other kitsch, but really cool kitsch. Its biggest problem was the artificial gloss Windham Hill put on the recording-- kinda like vaseline on the microphone, so to speak.

Tonight I expect to see Willem Breuker Kollektief!
