My Attempt At Jonathan Swift Style Satire.
Subject: I Propose We Draft The Elderly First.
All these draft supporters on DU who bitch about poor kids getting drafted but not rich kids should be relieved by this proposal. Why not start with all our senior citizens, the people with the most experience and the least to live for? It doesn't matter if they have medical conditions, or have served before, no deferments for any reason, not even being in a coma. We will work backwards from there, drafting the middle-aged DUers who would just love to serve their country voluntarily but unfortunately have aches and children who they thought would be sacrificed in their place. If we still need more troops once anyone over 30 has been drafted, the dead can be exhumed and zombified.

1. And your satirical point being?
Sorry it's lost on me. I don't know of any draft supporters on DU. Most of us here would rather see nobody drafted. Most of us here would rather see nobody sent to Iraq.

4. Read a Modest Proposal...
this is a way of mocking and deriding the idea by pretending to enspouse it.

3. satire, irony, sarcasm....

Irony is a figure of speech in which the literal
meaning is opposite to the actual or intended meaning.

Sarcasm is brief ironic speech meant to inflict damage.

Satire is work designed to ridicule, usually
through exagerated irony (parody).
