3. BIG MISTAKE in the movie
In one scene early on in the movie, 2 characters were discussing something and I believe it was Gwyeneth's character who referred to World War I as World War I... however this movie was supposedly taking place in the 30's so, wasn't it just the Great War, or The World War as far as the characters were concerned?

OHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I forgot, American audiences are STUPID and we wouldn't understand what they meant by The World War...

4. Actually, it was supposed to be 1939
in which case WWII had already started. But historians will know better than me as to whether it was being referred to as WWII or not.
BTW LOVED the movie!

6. As long as the movie's good...
I've been looking forward to this one.

WW2 airplanes, sci-fi, Paltrow and Jolie...what's not to love?

5. Good catch!
I'm impressed!

World War 1 was originally known as The Great War, because while the fighting was going on it was supposed to be "the war to end all wars" (until G.W. was born, at least). Undoubtedly there are historians and such still calling WW1 by the original name, even after WW2.

Even WW2 was known as the European War or Pacific War at the time, depending on what theater was being discussed.

Obviously, there isn't an official War Naming Department anywhere, so it's for convenience's sake that the two wars have been named as such.

But you're right, if she'd said "Great War" everyone would be scratching their heads.
