I bought some new towels today
Found me some really soft ones, in the deluxe large size - 3' x 6' - yummy! And got matching hand towels and washcloths, and also some finger towels. All in white, to go with the new bathroom, which has a white cotton shower curtain and white floor rug.

I love ultra-large comfy towels. I love my Egyptian cotton one I've had for years - still soft, still wondrous...but I needed some new towels, so that when people visit they can have matching sets, instead of shitty "Ah, here's an old red shitty bath towel, a somewhat destrung blue handtowel and, um, a paper thin washcloth that I think was yellow. Originally."

1. Having a multitude of nice fluffy towels
is one of the hallmarks of being a good hostess. The other? Enjoying yourself with your guests.

Hand soaps, hand cream, shampoos and plenty of tissues as well. I love having people over. And just the simple things help a lot. Another? A well placed robe in the guest room so the guest can come out for morning coffee on the patio.

2. A bathrobe in the closet?
Dammit. I put in a wall of whirling knives.

I knew it was one or the other. Damn.

:-)

It's fun to able to treat people like they're in a nice hotel when they come over. I'm getting to be a firm believer in hospitality - they also get their own shampoo and body soap and scrungee scrubber dealie thing. Plus spare toothbrushes, deodorant, and I want to get mini dental floss thingies, mouth wash, and toothpaste. Sadly, I have just the one bathroom - when I get my own house, and not an apartment, I want guest bathrooms.

Staying in the homes of some friends who have guest bathrooms have reinforced for me the importance and wondrousness of having them, even if it means making the bedrooms smaller or giving one room up to convert into a bathroom.

Someday I'd like to get me a towel warming rack, too. My mom used to have the dryer in the bathroom, so we could pop a towel in when we showered and come out to a nice hot towel. I miss that.

3. Other good ideas
In the guest room keep a basket of travel-sized personal hygiene products, toothbrushes, combs and that sort of thing in case they forgot to pack something.

6. I've also decided that when I have company over -
not to stay, but for like a dinner or something - I wanted a nice basket of cloth hand towels sitting in the bathroom like the good restaurants have, so everyone doesn't have to use the same dingy towel that sits on a rack. Pick up a hand towel, dry off, throw it in the towel hamper thingy. Classy. :-)

8. I haven't bought new sheets in quite a while
I found a set of flannel a few years ago, and by gum, I just don't want to try anything else. I fell in love with them immediately! I even use them in the summer.

Mmmmm.....flannel....
