Of course I know Heino! I go to Germany at least once a year and I'm very familiar with him, since, as you've noted he's ALWAYS on television. His music really isn't quite my thing, but as a cultural icon I'm fascinated with him. The first time I became aware of him (about 12 years ago, on my first extended stay in Berlin) he was being parodied on a television show by a drag queen who slipped into a male role just for that one bit. My friends filled me in on what was going on - and then played Heino music for the next 3 hours!

I don't speak German worth a damn since I usually travel with someone who's fluent and almost all of my German friends want to practice English. But it's never stopped me from shopping in KaDaWe.

On edit: I'm a fan of Totenhosen, too.
