I saw "Silver City" today. Ask me anything.
As the movie was ending, I sat there and said, "Wow."

5. Absolutely. I loved it!
The ending was quite powerful; I don't often react to the end of a movie by saying "wow."

A boob of a guy running for governor in Colorado
played by Chris Coooper, doing an excellent job. Stupid, clueless looks on his face. Unable to string together a complete sentence or a complete thought without his handlers spoon-feeding it to him. Gee, I wonder who that reminds me of? LOL His dad is a senator. They are tied in with a mega-corporation that controls everything. Family dynasty stuff.

When the boob is filming an environmental commercial, he ends up catching a dead body on his fish hook. Then things get interesting.

18. I have adored Chris Cooper since Matewan.
He got his throat slit.

8. I don't know if it will have political impact because the folks
most likely to see it are probably those already in the ABB camp. (At least I tend to think of John Sayles fans as being progressives, but I don't know if that's the case.)

The potential is there. There are so many parallels to reality. The boob candidate, who is the son of a senator. His stupid looks and his 'way with words' are so similar to dubya's. I wondered if Chris Cooper studied tapes of him when he was preparing for his role. Then there's the corporation that controls everything and it's rich head. Family dynasty is involved.

When the candidate uttered his 'bush-isms', I would hear people in the audience laughing. Gee, think they made the connection? LOL But as I said earlier, it may have been just preaching to the choir.

14. I wouldn't doubt it at all.
The parallels are there, and also heard that he rushed to get the movie out before the election. :-)

10. I don't know that there are any spoilers I could PM you.
I'm not sure what would be a spoiler for this film, and even if I were, it would probably require relating the entire story in detail so it would make sense. There was such a cast of characters, that it was not easy to keep track of them. This is a movie where you really have to pay attention.

15. Grrrr...
Is it still in limited release? please tell me it is because it is not playing at my local theaters, usually they are pretty good about getting these types of movies (F911 was playing the first week it opened, I even caught the Fog of War before the Oscars) but for some reason, Silver City is not playing yet. However I can rest easy tonight everyone because Baby Geniuses 2 is playing at all 3 of my local theaters!!

17. Yes, I believe it is in limited release now. It just opened yesterday.
I live in the Boston area, and when I looked up where it was playing, it was only at four theaters.

19. In the promos, he's got * down pat
Having heard bits of dialogue from the movie, Cooper appears to be doing a dead-on Bush* impression. I'm looking forward to this movie cuz Sayles is either brilliant (8 Men Out, Matewan, The Secret of Roan Inish) or boring (Lone Star) but I sense this one's probably in the brilliant category.

20. You found Lone Star boring???
I love his movies, and I thought "Lone Star" to be his best! Such a complex story, with interesting characters. I don't think I've ever heard anyone call it boring, even my ex, whose most frequent reaction to a movie is, "It was ok," liked it a lot.

But you are right in that Cooper does have * down pat--got a lot of chuckles from the audience.
