Every time one of us tries to read a book or magazine, he jumps up and sits on it. No fancy book-learnin' in our house.

18. She looks like my Molly!
Molly's namesake is Molly Ivins, but she herself is hard to figure out.

I'm not sure what the signals are saying: spastic, uncontrollable, hisses at the dog, chases paper balls, climbs our chairs, our couch, our bed, our walls, and our table, and drives us virtually insane ALL the time.

She is only kept in check with a spray bottle of water.

Perhaps she's just VERY independent.

What a little cutie! A long-time friend of mine has a ferret named Merlin, who is also adorable. However, my friend is a Republican and loves George Bush*. Fortunately, I haven't heard from him for awhile, since I doubt I could keep my opinions to myself just now and I know that it's just a losing battle with this guy. I am also grateful that he isn't aware that he could get Merlin to join "ferrets for Bush*," LOL!:D

22. Thank you. She was truly special. I lost her far too soon,
but she was a great trooper. Her vet said that he could do things with her that he'd never been able to do with a cat before. After she got sick, I took her for weekly acupuncture treatments, which most cats wouldn't put up with, but she'd just fall asleep.

I'm fighting tears after reading your reply. I hope that they are together, as well. They are both on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, waiting for us.

24. She is absolutely gorgeous!
And it's obvious from the pic that she's so very sweet. I'm terribly sorry that you lost her, Rhi -- I know how much that hurts.

I had an all-black female, Sally (1/2 Siamese) and I had an enormously strong bond with her. She was a great companion for 19 years, and when the time came, I was devastated. When I was in grammar school, she was there. When I was in college, she was there. When I had this job or that job, she was there. She's been gone for some time now, but I still sense her presence. I can even hear the little "chirp" she made before jumping on the bed (she loved to nap with me).

Well, now I'm tearing up! Sorry, I didn't mean to "paint on your painting."

You do understand. I didn't get Rhiannon as a kitten, but my uncle did. But then he died, and his unpleasant wife just got rid of his animals, and he had been, like my Dad, a real animal lover. Relatives of hers took his two dogs, but no one would take his two cats, so she was just going to drop them off at some shelter. My cousin called me, in tears. They had contacted her about the cats, since the other cat, Angela, had belonged to her mother, my Dad's older sister, who had also died, and my uncle had taken her cat, who my cousin had rescued. I wasn't well, at the time, and facing surgery, but my cousin was distraught, calling me, and I just couldn't sleep, worrying about the fate of these cats who were being evicted from a loving home. My surgery was postponed, at the last minute, so I called my cousin and told her that I would take the cats. She drove from Connecticut to my uncle's in NJ, to where I am in NY, to bring me these kitties.

I knew Angela, but all she could find out about the other cat was that "it" was friendly. What an understatement! She did this little delicate leap out of her carrier, after her long trip, and I realized, immediately, how fortunate I was to have found her. I remember saying, to her, "Aren't you a lovely thing!" She was a bit of a bully with Angela, desite the fact that Angela was older, larger and had claws, while Rhiannon did not, but she was fearless, which scared me, but it served her well. She loved both of my dogs and insisted on sitting on everybody's lap and sleeping on my pillow. Nobody could even tell me her name, but Rhiannon suited her and she responded to it, immediately. Her little head would jerk up whenever you said her name. She was only about five when I adopted her. I knew that I had found the perfect cat and planned to have her with me for 20 years. I lost her at age seven, but not without a good fight from both of us. I still don't understand. And I still miss her, everyday. She was so special and quite the personality.

As for your Sally, that was the name of my uncle's dog, an English Setter, who I volunteered to adopt, since she got along with my cocker spaniel and they were about the same age. But his wife's sister, a veterinarian, took Sally, so I knew that she got a good home. You were so fortunate to have had your Sally for 19 years, but it is still so hard to lose them, anytime. We are never ready. I should not have lost Rhiannon, either. I adopted my cocker spaniel, Barney, at age 10 or 11, and had him for eight years. I had hoped to have him for at least five. But this also broke my heart when I lost him. It was still far too soon, even though he was probably 18. It is never an easy thing, but we must try to take comfort in knowing that we did the best for them, though I am always second-guessing myself. As for your still sensing Sally's presence, I do this, myself. A black cat can become one with the shadows and, if no one else is around, I will sometimes call out "Rhiannon!" on the remote chance that she'll appear, like she always did when I called her.;(

on edit: Here is Barney, my perfect dog. Rhiannon just loved him and would try to get him to play with her.

Rhiannon is also my namesake, as I posted in an earlier reply. My friend had a cat also named Athena, and I used to cat-sit for her. She was a very sweet cat. I haven't seen her since my friend moved back to Texas. Maybe I should give him a call and make sure that he's voting correctly in November. I have no doubt that his Athena is a liberal.:-)

43. My boys must weigh in...
These were street cats, who started hanging around my porch when my neighbor turned them out as kittens and ignored them.

I put food out, I spent time on my porch with them, I brought them toys... And then they decided they liked sleeping inside my car engine. The only answer was to bring them into the house and never let them out again. These pictures are from the garage (read: storage room), where they've set up their campaign headquarters.

and they're expensive to keep...food, litter disposal, shots&vaccines&declawing, toys, etc)
