Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 11:37 PM by JanMichael
...ALL human beings (Especially here in AMERICA for you pesimists...The big wide World is probably out of your interest range) before spending a $500 on our cats or dogs for bad teeth (Or bad breath:-))?

Or $1,000?

Isn't this a priority issue?

Yep! We had to run down to to basement.
Although the building was built in the 60's so I can only assume it could probably take a direct hit from a nuke so we really weren't in any danger.

6. you know whats sick
I remember in young democrats last year, a retired boilermakers union official came in and told us, of how when he was lobbying for single payer health care and etc, they talked to Trent Lott and Lott refused to support not because he thought it was impractical but because of the socialist connation. What a bunch of stupid crap, a lot of things we take for granted now a days were socialist innovations.

8. Oh, sure....
...first it's that damned socialist medicine, then the next thing you know, poor black women will have more babies just to increase their welfare payments, and Rupert will be back in school libraries...

then it'll be the homos making out on granite statues of the Ten Commandments, and lesbians on TV...

then New Coke...

then the Rapture, and we'll all be Judged.

12. universal health care
is definitely the best way to go. It much more cost efficient and everyone will be treated equally. It will also significantly reduce the salaries the CEOs of big insurance and pharmaceutical companies. So naturally repugs won't go for it.

17. Oh? When Did We Get Universal Health Care for Companion Animals?
And why does it have to be one or the other?

Or are you saying the next time one of the animals in my care is sick, I should run out and find a human I don't know and give them my money, and let the animal die? If so, dream on.

Of course I would. Don't pull the selfish ignorant card my friend.

Problem is that we've got an ass backward system. I'm not trying to be a dickhead here, just trying to sort out priorities.

22. I've beem arguing for that since before HMOs were invented.
Health care a basic human right, and I've always had a problem with it being tied to one's job. Which means you have to have a job that provides it. You're screwed if you're self-employed, between jobs, working part-time, laid off, working for a small company that can't provide it, etc. You also might have to stay with a job that you hate instead of going for something you'd love. I am or have been in many of these situations. I'm only working 16 hours a week currently, and I've been looking for a second job for quite some time. But my cobra ends in March, so now I can only look at jobs that carry good health care benefits.

24. If you aren't a socialist...
you are an anti socialist. Anti socialists populate the prisons. Definitions are the problem here.

"promote the general
Welfare" (That's the Constitution.) This means whatever we say it is when we have the political power to make it happen.

26. At least people who spend money on their animals' health are
spending money to alleviate suffering in a living being.

Contrast that with the men who spend thousands on car junk, excess computer and electronic crap, and women who have a hundred pair of shoes, junk jewelry, designer baskets and all that consumer trash.

And, having said that, I would also remind you that individual spending is just that -- individual. We all spend our individual money on things we want/need, and that has nothing to do with your health care. If I could take my cat's $100 shots bill and buy universal health care with it, I would. But I can't.

When we COLLECTIVELY decide to spend money on universal health care it will be a great thing, but I bet the people who are the animal lovers won't be your enemies then -- it will be the grasping bastards who want another hot rod or another necklace for themselves who will howl about "high taxes" to help people who should "have the grace to go die in a corner somewhere because they didn't take care of themselves."

27. Of course it is. All Americans deserve health insurance
But I just had my dog's teeth cleaned. He has bad teeth and had to have eight extractions when I adopted him. The same is true for my cat. But they are on a Banfield "wellness plan," so it cost me nothing. This is a kind of health insurance for pets. If you're going to have a pet, you have to give them good care, or what's the point? Of course, the same is true for a child. Every American deserves good health care. This has been one of John Kerry's core issues, since the very first debate.
