Norah Jones....Do you like her music? just heard her first album in a
store that was playing it. Had to stop shopping and ask the owner: "Who's that singer you're playing?" She pulled out two CD's by Jones. The first CD was the one that caught my attention.

2. Her voice is gorgeous. The first CD got lots of awards.
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 08:12 PM by tjdee
The only thing is that I think I'd fall asleep to the entire CD at once, LOL. Haven't listened to the whole thing. Prolly unfair... it's just that her voice is so soothing.
As I said, the first cd was acclaimed hardcore, maybe best album of the year, or something?? Will check.

on edit: Come Away with Me won Best Song, Best Record, and Best Album of the Year. (Grammys)

Beautiful, beautiful voice. As far as I know, she's more of a vocalist/musician rather than a songwriter--which is fine with me!

3. Arghhhhhh!!!!
Silly pop music marketed as jazz. The same folks who years ago thought they liked jazz because they had a Chuck Mangione album now think the same because they have a Norah Jones CD.

Why she has the career she does is a mystery to me.

(well, you asked...) :)

5. Doesn't even remotely sound like jazz to me....
It's more blues and torch songs to me.

I like her style and never even made a connection to jazz.

7. All music sucks...
...once somebody likes it. The best music is the kind that is played in a closet and if you could hear it you'd say what the BLEEP is that crap.

:-)

18. Complain to Blue Note then
They're the ones that signed her, and yes, they're basically a jazz label. What was she going to say at the ripe old age of 20? "No, I don't want that record contract." Sorry, I gotta give props to any young attractive woman who DOESN'T market her music by shaking her T's and A. Compared to the other stuff out there, I think she's a breath of fresh air. Besides, she grew up in Texas :D

My taste are a bit more eclectic, and her's typically more mainstream but we can both enjoy Norah.

10. I think it's too bland and indistinct for me
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 09:11 PM by jpgray
No great melodies, interesting arrangements/production, great playing, or solid hooks, and I guess that's what gets me excited in music. It's pretty enough, though. I don't mind listening to it. My dad and my first cousin love her.

Sorry.

You must get that all the time. Couldn't help myself

Who did you want? Penny or Judy? I was hot for both of them, but I've always been greedy that way.

19. Read a review
that stated she is to jazz what Willie Nelson was to country music.

and I agree. She is incredible.

On the CD "Ray Charles - Genius Loves Company," she sings "Here We Go Again" with full orchestra - absolutely incredible.

20. I do
Her Come Away With Me CD is one of the best albums to relax to. It's earthy so you keep awake, and her voice is so taming. Also has intelligent lyrics.

23. I saw her duet with Keith Richards, no kidding...
It was at the Return to Sin City tribute to Gram Parsons this summer. She sang "She" and a couple of others, then Keith came out and they did "Wild Horses" together.

I was sitting up cloase, and it was like Beauty and the Beast! But it worked.

I think she has a lovely voice, her style isn't my favorite, but she was wonderful singing Parsons' songs.
