Sky Captain is stupidity and cheesiness in epic proportions
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 12:22 AM by jpgray
But it's a fun and entertaining movie.

:D

It has interesting and imaginative art, decent acting and some good one-liners, but is very derivative of old-style serials and adventure films, particularly the Indiana Jones movies. The script and overall plot are pretty dumb, but again--the movie is fun.

5. I have to wait until sometime midweek to see it
My luck that it would come out on the week that I go on vacation.

:evilfrown:

Oh well, at least I'll be back in time to see Shaun of the Dead next Friday.

6. It's the most fake-looking movie I have ever seen.
I mean, look at it. It's all cheap CGI. If you're gonna saturate the movie in CGI, at least make it a complete dead-ringer with real film, like the wolves in "The Day After Tomorrow".

11. Exactly
It was supposed to be right out of the 1930's serials.
I LOVED IT!

9. I'm pretty sure it was intended
to be derivative--it's an homage of sorts

12. it came across as a satire to me
"Raiders of the Lost Ark" poked fun at some of the adventure serial situations (e.g. when Indy just pulled out his gun and shot the swordsman instead of being "sporting") -- and this movie seemed to take that aspect even further. I was hoping the humor would be a bit more twisted and dark, rather than getting all wrapped up in "see how 1930s our production design and cinematography are!", but it seemed that the edgiest thing was the casting of the bad guy.

Amusing, and I think that my dad (who was a fan of that genre the first time around) will probably like it. I think this might be one of those movies that becomes historic more for its technical accomplishments (like "Tron" and "Young Sherlock Holmes" did) than for how memorable the story is, though.
