Here's a shitty day for you:
1) this morning, I was called by a company who hired me to shoot a tv series for them, revolving around a character who has terminal breast cancer. They called to say they were cancelling my deal, because they want my position to be filled by a woman, because "only a woman will be able to understand the sensitive nature of breast cancer...". They didn't let the fact that I watched my own mother in law die of it influence their decision...oh, no...

2) My real estate agent called today, to tell me the sale of my home has been cancelled, because the buyers' inspector discovered that one of the walls of my garage has nearly completely rotted away behind the drywall due to a leak in the roof flashing, and it's a miracle the whole structure hasn't collapsed. It's insured and completely repairable, thank goodness, but it still allows the buyers the option of backing out of the deal, which they just did. And that means I have to withdraw the offer I just made on a new place for myself. So where will I be living on October 1st? Damned if I know.

3) After my mom came by to help me move some things for the move, she went home to discover her storage locker was burglarised. What was stolen? The older PC? The box of CDs? The mountain bike? No...a box of my tax and legal documents... and my soon-to-be ex-wife has a key to the common storage area. Police are investigating, and my 70 year old mom is scared shitless.

So.... how was your day?

4. Oh hey I actually think YOURS sucked WAY worse
mine was a pain in the ass (well, a pain SOMEWHERE) but that's all it really was.

Yours was worse, in my opinion and I sincerely hope things get better.

17. your shitty day topped my shitty day
we drove back from Minneapolis to NE-Pa area (rental car) on Sunday, 18 hour drive we arrived home at 2:30am

just unloaded immediate needed items, and crashed into bed

3 hours later the cats walked on my face to remind me they wanted to be fed

went out to my car around 10am to go pick up the dogs from the boarding kennel -- my brakes were frozen, and we had to get the dogs out of the kennel by noon -- so I used the rental car

a quick call to our mechanic and a suggestion to 'wiggle' the cables/lines to the brakes got them loosened enough to be able to drive the car to the garage

meanwhile, we still had to get the rental car back and run errands

later that day some idiot hit a pole across the street and pulled the lines away from our house

car cost me $200 for brake repair, and electric lines were put back up
-- all this on 3 hrs sleep

10. Maybe...
The Mountie who investigated wants to have a chat with her, but agreed to wait until I spoke with my lawyer about it (he's away until Wednesday). She (the Mountie) says she doesn't have to pursue it if it'll complicate (HA!) my divorce. But she thinks it's very conicidental that this happened now, since I started getting lots of "hang-ups" on my cell phone in the last week or so.

Nice, sensitive Mountie...and she is freakin' HOT, too! Perhaps fate has dealt me a favourable hand after all (bow-chicka-chicka-bow...)

11. Ooops, I forgot #4:
4) Picked up my repaired vehicle: The cost to repair last week's rear axle fire on my truck was $813.00, because I was fool enough to put it out with an extinguisher. Had I let it burn, my $500 insurance deductable would have been the only outlay for a replacement truck.

Fuck, I'm stupid! :dunce:

5. man any kinda shit is shitty
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 09:21 PM by mlle_chatte
and it's all relative. sorry the worst part sounds like your mom having the shit scared outta her...

as a woman, i find the reason the company gave for your termination to be total shite. plenty of women have no fucking idea what it is to have breast cancer-me included. plus it's different for EVERYONE. as a cancer survivor myself, i know that. and the fact you were close to someone who had it-GACK people piss me off-that was a totally sexist bullshitty thing for them to do to you-they should have thought about what they wanted before they hired-then fucked you.

i hope the weekend is good for you, and next week goes well for you...

On Edit: my today, not brill, but I've had way way worse, so i'm not complaining-it was way way better than yours. unless you wanna count the fact that Bartell's no longer carries Lakrits, a chocolate-licorice candy. that bummed my stone for a while....

7. Here's mine:
(not nearly as *seriously* bad as yours, CA...:()

Went to take the girls to school, and let the dog ride along. I took the youngest one last, and when we went in, we of course left the window cracked so the puppy could breathe...

WELL...after I came out, my clicky-door-unlocky-thingy decided not to work, and the key just sets of the blaring car alarm if you don't unset it with the clicky thingy. But, of course, I had a *plan*...I'd just stick my arm in the cracked window, unlock door, bob's your uncle, away we go.

OH, but no.

I stick my arm in, unlock the door...realize I can't get my arm OUT. It ain't budging. And of course the freakin' alarm went off (:dunce:) anyway, and now the dog is bouncing around the inside of the car barking his fool head off...and I'm stuck dangling from the door. I can't get to the ignition to stop the alarm. I can't calm down the dog. I can't get my damn arm out the window. What I CAN do is utter a stream of obscenities I guarantee that elementary school parking lot has never heard.

So, yeah...I finally RIP my arm out of the stupid window, leaving behind several layers of skin and being left with this:

I just wish I'd had a video camera, I'd be stinkin' rich. :D

9. Mine wasn't great
So, long story: what with the hurricane, travel, and general work going on, I haven't been able to sit down with my supervisor for some time. We were going to meet yesterday and I was going to bring her up to speed on everything, but the storm changed those plans...
I have management of a database as my primary responsibility, which until it is transferred onto our servers by contract with software engineers is being housed by the originating agency. A few weeks ago I lost contact with the database, right before I had to travel and during server upgrades. When I got back I found out that the database had been moved behind a firewall that wasn't allowing outside contacts.
I tried to find out what was going on, and what could be done, and what efforts it would take to fix the problem. They suggested copying the database onto a disk-that won't work because it's in archaic software that's incompatible. They can't simply add our IP addresses to the listing because they are static. I tried (until about noon today) to contact their IT person, to no avail.
This is where the day got bad...I was providing what info I could to my supervisor before she got on the plane, on everything I have. This was one opf the topics, and when I mentioned it, she immediately said "you need to tell the station director this". Which I did. Unfortunately now, because I didn't have a chance to really brief her, she thought I was saying that the agency had moved the database, AND I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING, because I didn't have time to tell her where I was at and that I was on the verge of fixing the problem without having to bring in higher-ups, which is of course my responsibility anyway as manager of the database. She then calls the station director, who says that we can't simply let the database "languish", etc. etc.
I had to explain both in print and verbally to the station director what was going on, that I was on top of it, and wasn't letting the database "languish". So, yeah, things could have been better, and I am a little pissed that I end up chastized for doing things the correct way.

12. Geez....yea, your day sucked...so sorry...I hit a car in the
parking lot...completely my fault (except he MAY have been parked in a no parking zone but I'm not sure if that will make a difference). My car literally only had a few scratches but his had a dent. I have insurance but I'm not sure exactly what the coverage is. The whole things totally sucks but looking at yours and other people's day definitely puts this in perspective... Once again, I'm really sorry that you had such a day....

13. My Day Stunk, Too
We live in an apartment, and just yesterday, discovered that we had a leak going on in our laundry room, which rotted through the wall into my office, plus rotted through the wall into my clothes closet - mold and mildew everywhere. I washed clothes like no tomorrow both yesterday and today, then completely moved all of the clothes out of my closet, and cleaned just about everything out of my office because building maintenance was going to bring a plumber in to fix the pipes where the leak is, put new walls in, paint, remove the carpetting and put new vinyl flooring in, etc... Well, as usual, worked my butt off for nothing - they never showed up today to do anything other than wash the walls with bleach and water. I was also waiting on the exterminator to come and set traps for mice, which we have never had in here before, but my husband almost died while playing the PS2 the other night and saw a mouse running along the radiator pipes. My disabled son was home from school today - we had to see the neurologist this afternoon. He got constipated later in the day and threw up on the way home from the doctor, then again once we got home. Had to give him a fleet laxative to relieve his issues. My husband is working o.t. this week, and I went to pick him up at a certain bus stop because the buses stop running at a certain time in our area - well, he wasn't there when he was supposed to be. He took the wrong bus by accident and had to hoof it about 3 miles home in the dark. Everybody is in bed but me - I can't sleep. Trying to wind down, then gear up for another fun-filled day tomorrow. Lol! At least, I can laugh about it, I guess.

14. I already divulged my "bad day" story and I must say...
You win. Sorry to hear about all that! The only thing I can think of for comfort is a stupid sayign I heard once. "Dont worry about the world ending today, It's already tomorrow in Australia!"

Hope things pick up for you real soon.

19. I'm inclined to agree...
1) her countersuits are being dismissed, and she has to pay the costs on them

2) she had my phones disconnected last week, without notifying me

3) about ten people have my cell number, including her, and I started getting 'hang-ups' beginning last week

4) her lawyer has been away for two weeks, and therefore not able to keep my wife in line

5) she's nuts
