dampen a fingertip. Dip in salt (sea salt is best-normal salt will do) then hold against said painful lesion for as long as you can stand it.

This always clears up my canker sores, if you do have a canker sore, which it sounds like you do.

NPs are wonderful little things for nasal irrigation.

PS-Don't get the metal ones. Ours fell apart. Ceramic or plastic are better:

...Lysine has helped me soooooo much and it works pretty fast. I'm thinking that what you have is pretty similar to fever blisters, so it's certainly worth a try. Salt might help, but Lysine really addresses the cause of these things.

13. WOW, great tip, thanks!
I also get cold sores, and they are helped some by using Abreva. The last time I got one, I also used Lysine and it was about the mildest cold sore I have ever had. I have often wondered if canker sores were related to cold sores. I am a veterinarian and we have known for some time that Lysine helps to control complications of feline herpesvirus. Next time I get a canker sore I will try it. Maybe I will just keep taking it as prevention, and experiment with lots of citrus and chocolate and nuts, LOL!

7. Canker sores, it sounds like.............
I have been getting them my whole life. I read somewhere that they are brought on by consuming citrus, chocolate, and/or nuts in some people. I love all these things, so haven't been able to pin anything down other than it seems that WALNUTS are a major cause in me, but not the only cause. I try to remember to brush and use mouthwash after eating any of the three.

Go to a dentist/doctor to get them looked at. You should find out what they are. You really don't want to find out too late IF they are carcinoma. Seriously.

52. Here's an even less fun-and-delicious story:
I have a friend who used to chew, and he would spit into whatever container was handy, dumping out it later. On a car ride one time, he was spitting into a fast food soda cup, and when we were parking he handed me the cup to hold while he unloaded something else. Now, I'd been watching him spit into this cup for half an hour, so I knew what it was, but unfortunately I have pretty poor short-term memory. More unfortunately, I was a bit thirsty at the time... :puke:

Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 11:10 PM by Tangledog
I used to get cankersores a lot; it was a hormonal thing, and also they'd show up if I got drunk too frequently. I've never heard of getting them only on your tongue and not on the inside of your cheeks. And they shouldn't take that long to heal. With luck it's some seasonal dish (winter squash? fruitcake?) or a similar transient allergy. But one of my goals is to nag deserving Democrats into living to be 160, so again, I urge you to talk to your GP/family-type doc, and then, if necessary, to an EENT spec or an allergist.

I'd say you can blame B*, too; he gets over on a lot of crap he did do, so turnabout's fair play. Plus it feels damn fine to blame the Axis of Feeble :) .

Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 11:28 PM by RebelYell
Is IS tomato season. I get them this time of year too, because we have billions of tomatoes from our garden.

Salt works. Rinse with salt and water 5 or 6 times/day until it's gone. Putting salt directly on it works faster.
