North Carolina greets Ivan
On battery back-up now as the power has been out for 24 hours.
The silence from NC Du'ers is because almost 90 percent of us have no power.
Mountain roads all over Western North Carolina have been either flooded or subjected to mudslides and washouts. Many houses have been flooded
and evacuees sheltered in public places.

Rivers and creeks, swelled by Ivan's rains on already saturated lands, have reached and passed flood stages across the region.

But the storm has pretty much passed us now, leaving only a few high winds. I understand that Ivan's remains are now into Virginia and further north?

That's the 9:43 update, anyone else online from WNC?

3. Didn't know...
NC was getting hit so hard. The media seems to have dropped the ball.Any idea when you'll get power back? Should I send you some California sun to dry things out?

4. Yep - you mountain folk got smacked
We're in Chapel Hillsborough, and just had a bunch of rain and a few hours of gusty winds. Power went out at my house for about 2 minutes in the early afternoon. Tornadoes (? duh ? - Quayle moment here) struck in two of the counties bordering Orange, though, so not all of us around here were so lucky. Hope y'all hill folk get the electric juice flowing again soon.
