Poll question: So how often do you....?
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 03:13 PM by SarahBelle
"Put up shelves"? (Euphemism thanks to an old Three's Company episode.)

Before we decided on divorce (much more than just what goes on with shelves btw), we'd put up shelves about 3 or 4 times a week and even at the low points (when we had babies under a year), it was always at least once or twice a week. I was usually the one who initiated the idea of putting up sheves, did most of the work and creative efforts in putting up the shelves, yet was made to feel like I was never putting up shelves often enough. I was relatively unexperienced in terms of shelving before him (not completely, but I have been with just him since I was 18, he was 27 though), so I just sort of bought this line for a long time chronically thinking somehow it was I who just needed to keep working harder and then 'everything would be ok'. I don't think it was me. In fact, I know it wasn't me. Anyway, just curious.

2. Maybe you just needed to get a professional contractor to help
redesign the shelves and come up with some new shelf mounting techniques :) :) :) :bounce::bounce::bounce:

5. I've been married twice
And now I just "live in sin" as my grandmother used to call it. I've found with just about every man I've been with for any length of time that after the honeymoon wears off, I have to instigate. In addition, they seem to feel it's an imposition if I instigate at a time that is inconvenient to them but it's nearly equivalent to a national emergency if I'm not up for it when they are.

6. I like to watch others put up shelves
In fact, I'm often willing to pay $9.95 for the privilege. But rarely do I watch for more than 10 minutes or so.

9. See, here's what you need to do
You need to invest in a quality cordless drill/driver, so you can put up shelves whenever you feel like it.

12. The best holiday gift I ever got was a drill-driver
It's blue and ergonomic and fits my needs perfectly.

My only complaint? The batteries run down too quickly. :grr:

I am much more interested in shelving the last two years than I had been for a while!... when you have a kid, there are a lot of other things to do besides putting up said shelving... I was previously afraid that my love of bookcases and other furniture had become dormant. And it had not! Hooray for shelving and it's accoutrements!

And they're the nicest goddamn shelves I've ever had in my life, too. Put some up last night, in fact!

Somehow, the BF never seems to run out of wood either.

31. Mrs bearfan and I put up 2 or 3 shelves a week
It's difficult to put up shelves when our granddaughter is here. I have to wait until after 10 pm sometimes. Sometimes it takes a long time to put up a shelf if you want to make sure it comes out good.

32. When we were first married.....
we put up plenty of shelves...even stored cherries and whipped cream on them. As time goes on though... we didn't need as much shelving as we used to....however we make better shelves now than we ever did when we were younger. Using the proper tools and the correct techiques in woodworking lets us get by with more quality, not quantity when it comes to building shelves.

33. With fiance's back surgery and then my surgery
for a perforated ulcer last month, we haven't put up any new shelves since April. I imagine it will be at least another 6 weeks or so before we try to get any shelving done.

Right now though I could care less about any kind of shelving. I'll be glad when both of us get to the point we want to even talk about putting up shelves.

38. Sometimes, I don't know if it'll ever be better.
I think it's just the darkness before the dawn right now. It's been a long and winding (and often painful) road. :(
