What gets me about those damn memos...
Now, I haven't been following it too closely, so please correct me if my info is wrong.

If I understand correctly, they appear to have been typed using MS Word, and have Bush's commanding officer's signature on them, making them forged.

The secretary claims she never typed them. But she says she DID type memos containing the same information. Other corroborating sources confirm the info in the memos.

So, if I understand correctly, the information in the memos is not what is under suspicion, but whether Bush's CO wrote them himself.

If this is all true, then the forging attempt was so amateurish it makes me wonder if it was a deliberate attempt to discredit the information and Kerry's campaign.

1. There is absolutely NO EVIDENCE THAT MS WORD WAS USED. NONE
A handwriting expert HAS VERIFIED THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE SIGNATURES.

The secretary claims that although she did not type the memos, the content is absolutely correct.

2. Yes, and Further
I believe there's evidence they were NOT done on a computer but on a typewriter. Wear on the keys, uneven position on the line, differnt "th" superscript, etc.

So the memos were written on a typewriter, have Killian's signature, but were not typed by Killian's secretary. THAT'S supposed to be evidence of forgery?

4. The problem is

everything I've heard has been prefaced by "I believe" and "People have said". Including my own post below.

I also don't believe handwriting analysis is quite as rock-solid as DNA evidence.

I haven't seen anything other than second-hand say-so either in support of the memos, or against them, aside from the secretary, and her corroborating the content of the memos is what is important to me.

3. I've heard a claim
that the line breaks on the memos fall exactly where MS Word places them. Now, I don't know if that claim is true, but if true, it should make one wonder.

I saw that interview as well, where the secretary denied typing them, but admitted the information in them is correct.

That's why I wonder if there may have been a deliberately poor forging attempt simply to discredit the information.

5. Here's memogate in a nutshell....
White House releases the memos
Dan Rather on CBS shows the memos
Bloggers don't like the memos, start blogging they're fake
Dittoheads like Rush LImbaugh don't like the memos, pick up from the bloggers and say they are fake
Matt Drudges Scoops the news from Rush & the Bloggers saying memos are fake
Fox interupts a story on the Olsen Twins and Killer Sharks to say the Memos are fake
CNN & MSNBC attempt to play catch-up with FOX and not only say the memos are faked, but were probably typed by one of their Interns on an old IBM Laptop with an HP Printer and they can prove it
World implodes from this stupidity

Seriously - we're questioning these memos because of a bunch of idiotic right-wing bloggers and dittoheads who are programed to never EVER question anything Bush does.
