My daughter, who's 17, got into an argument today Repub vs. Dem
Most of my daughter's friends are Republican and Christian. She said she just got into an argument with one of them during the school lunch period. My daughter also considers herself Christian but was condemned for supporting the Dems. The girl said all Dems are bad because they support abortion. My daughter told me she said just because you don't agree with abortion doesn't mean you have to limit other people's freedom of choice because that's what America is based on. Then my daughter said something about that she doesn't just do everything she's told and thinks with her own mind. She also said the Republicans only worry about things when it affects them and don't care about everybody else's welfare and that most are "rich" (just quoting her!) and the Dems care more about people like the bible teaches us to do!!!!!

This is a major turn around for my daughter from her middle school days when she was embarrassed because mom and dad were Dems!

This is the second argument she's gotten into regarding the abortion issue with her friends. I told her that this is probably the only thing they've been taught about Dems so they don't know any better.

I can't believe she is speaking out like she is!! I am so proud!:bounce:

13. Uh, her last 2 b/f's were kind of homely but their parents
were considerably wealthy! I started calling her a golddigger until the b/f she has now! He is not from a wealthy family but he is fairly handsome and is going to go become a pilot! I guess you can't have it all! LOL

Speakin of money, I am like in the middle of my area, walkin to school everyday, and if I had a car it would be modest but many people here have like sports cars, some people have all the game consoles, I just have PS2. I am not trying to sound humble here, pilot is a nice dream, good luck to your daughter and her bf.

4. At our last Dem meeting...
One lady brought up a very important point. The right has only coopted religion because Democrats have allowed them to. It's time for religious Dems to stand up in their churches and proudly proclaim that they are Democrats.

I do not believe that politics should be expressed in church--Republican or Democrat. However, since the right has equated Dems with anti-Christianity, it is time for Christian Dems to stand up and to do so proudly.

...will be driving to church on Sunday. It'll be nice to show people that we're not all right wingers.

6. Maybe she should ask those so-called "Christian" friends...
If Jesus told them to "stone" her as He told the crowd to stone that adulteress to death...NOT!

I don't blame you...I'M proud of her, too!:D

B-)

12. She has more fortitude than I would have had!
Mostly, I admire her because this is a very small town and everybody knows everybody, where the "rich" around here consider themselves to be the "elite" and are mostly Republican and Christian right wingers. To get into the "in" crowd around here and have an advantage, you almost have to conform to the way they think and act. I'm sure it's that way everywhere but it's magnified in this town and difficult to go against the grain without making your life a living hell.

She is probably one of those that others in the school think of as "rich" and part of that group because she is very sociable, active and hangs around with the more "popular" group. But she is finding that they are every bit as "corrupt" and maybe moreso than the ones that always get labeled that way. I think she is beginning to see this and is using it to her advantage to speak up knowing it may cost her her popularity among the "elite" at school! She may find herself on the outs before it's over but I think her values are much more than what she even thought they were......

15. LOL! Tell her "welcome to the club" from me
Debating my friends can be addictively fun. Of course, sometimes when they are being unreasonable I like to just mess with them and play Devil's Advocate! It's hillarious!
