Any veterinarians? Dog bee sting question
I've left a message for a friend who is a veterinarian, but the dog's human is anxious and so am I.

My recently former neighbor's Lab-Chow mix, Jasper (85 lb., about four years old, neutered male) got into a bees' nest yesterday and was stung in several places, including inside his mouth. Joan thought he was OK, but today she noticed that he was anxious and confused and wouldn't go outside the house. He sticks close to her at all times and wouldn't go outside to play with his litter mate and partner-in-all-crimes (who apparently is showing no ill effects from their adventure yesterday). I was about to hazard a guess that the recent move plus the injury in his new surroundings might have some psychological consequences, but Joan says that there's a blueish white film over his corneas--not completely, but partially--and he acts like he's not seeing as well as he did (delayed or no response to movement, for example).

Would bee stings on the eyes effect him this way? Or bee toxin in his system in general? Will it go away or should she get him to the vet? She hasn't got much money (she was evicted). . . .

Any information would be appreciated! Thank you!

1. I'm not a vet...
...but I do know that some people are allergic to bee stings. This can be especially dangerous if they get stung in the mouth, because their throats can swell and they can suffocate.

I say take the dog to the vet to make sure he's not having an allergic reaction.

2. Not a vet, either, but

the dog needs a shot of Benedryl, IMO. There are some sites on the web that can help you, but this is not something that should be ignored. He needs help.

3. Happened to a friends dog
Lots of swelling. Called the vet and he said to give the dog
an allergy pill, like for instance Benadryl. Helped almost
instantly. I would not fool around with this as the dog could be
in serious trouble.

5. Vet, now!
If you don't have a vet available right now, call one of the many animal poison hotlines (the ASPCA has one, but you have to like, sell a kidney to pay for it)...

Benedryl is a temp solution, and I believe with canines it's weight sensitive.

Not a vet either, just play one on tv.

Lots of vets will give her a break for a suffering animal, believe me.
Call the local animal shelter for their advice on this.

7. go to Emergency vets if possible
My dog was stung by over a hundred bees at 2 years of age. I took him immediately - vet gave him a benadryl shot plus some other med (can't remeber what) and said he "hoped" he would be OK. He could barely move for three days and moaned constantly. I was very scared - but he survived.

Was stung all over, mainly face, ears and eyes.

Go NOW.

8. PLEASE, get that dog to a vet now!!!
I have seen horses with few bee stings react horribly. They usually run fevers. Sometimes they won't eat. Iv'e seen dogs and cats get in trouble from a few stings too. Your dog needs to be examined by a vet who will probably at least give him a shot of prednisone. If you cannot get the animal to a vet, put ice on the stings to reduce any swelling. Make sure the dog has water and is drinking it. Sitting with the animal (like on the floor) can help reduce their anxiety. Iv'e spent nights sleeping in horse stalls just to make sure they were ok. Take the temperature if possible. Normal in dogs is 102. You should be able to take respirations visually. Normal on a dog would be 100-130. That should give you a few things to go on but I'd try to get the animal to a vet as quickly as I could.

9. You've convinced me
I went to the AKC's site for further ammunition to convince Joan.

I did give her the name of the one veterinarian in our area who takes payments over time (fortunately, they also come highly recommended as vets). She says she knows another vet, nearer to where she's staying now, who let her pay once over 2 years for another dog injury.

She said she'd call me tomorrow to let me know how he is. I'll let you all know.

Thanks much for the rapid responses!
