Anyone have a good college/community music radio station in their area?
I'm trying to research radio stations online and it's hard to get a feel for the good ones. I'm looking for stations that have an eclectic playlist and a decent-sized listener base. I've been searching in cities like Austin, Seattle, Raleigh-Durham, Minneapolis...but there are so many small college/community stations, it's hard to narrow down the list. Anyone have a favourite station??

But if you're interested in an internet station that pretty much plays everything, my station does just that:

Let me know if it's the kinda thing you're looking for..

5. Hey! I love internet radio
I listen to Radio Paradise whenever I'm at my computer. I'm trying to get Enigma to play on iTunes, but all I get is the intro -- anything you want it to be! -- and then the stream stops. Eek.

3. WVUA used to be pretty good
I haven't listened to them recently because they have a weak signal and I'm in the outskirts.

6. KLCC in Eugene
Their web site is www.klcc.org. They have their playlist for the past few days on the web site which is great if you hear something you like and want to check out who the artist is. They also have some NPR programming.

9. KEXP 90.3 Seattle
Best station I've ever listened to, hands down no question. Streams live from Seattle, is listener supported and just absolutely brilliant. Highly highly recommend it, and am thinking I should bring my earphones to work so I can plug in and keep up.

Excellent drum and bass, hip hop, jazziness, indie rock, punk, bluegrass and so forth. They archive old playlists so you can go back and listen to your favorites.

Here's the link: KEXP

11. WRAS, 88.5 FM, Atlanta
http://www.wras.org (playlist should be online...no streaming audio, unfortunately)

Very eclectic...rock, jazz, blues, country, hip-hop, electronica, classical, and probably most other things you can think of...their regular rotation playlist can be kind of hit-or-miss, but almost all of their genre shows are excellent.

18. Cleveland: WRUW 91.1 and WCSB 89.3 have their moments.
They broadcast from Case Western Reserve and Cleveland State, respectively. Not the best as far as college radio goes, but still much better than the alternative. I'd rather listen to satellite.

CD-101 in Columbus is by far the best commercial station I have heard so far.

20. WRCT Carnegie Mellon Univ 88.3
and WYEP 91.3 both on the web, I believe, here in Pittsburgh. RCT is the way community radio used to be, you never know what you are going to hear next.

31. I still like them
athough they have gone a bit corporate for my taste. Too much alt-playlistness for my taste and paying too much attention to marketing droids, IMO. I miss when they were as weird as RCT, weirder in fact. But then, the argument is, they would no longer be on the air. I bet, though, that there are plenty of community radio stations that are able to mesh funky with some solvency, though.

I worked for WRUW for 14 years, but I must admit, the programming on WCSB has been far, far better for the past few years.
