My son is a help desk technician, working as a contractor for a federal agency. He was hired about 18 months ago. After 4 months, their contract expired and a new contractor took over. They hired most of the old employees but didn't give anyone a raise, and treated all employees as if they were brand new employees in terms of benefits like vacation, and also, everyone had to wait a full year to get a raise. This meant some would go 23 months without a raise.
To make it worse, management was surly and abusive so my son started looking for a new job. Within days he was offered a new job at a much larger salary, large enough so that he quit his old job.
He's been at this new job four days now and today they came to him and said they had made a "mistake" and told him they could only pay him $10,000 less than what they promised him - and that he has to let them know today whether he'll accept this new salary or quit!
He has a signed offer sheet with the promised salary, but according to the state labor office he contacted, this means nothing. They can fire him without cause if he doesn't agree to the cut in pay.
We now have government of the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations.
