1. You forgot one option...
The "I hate you for making me read all these options" option.

Damn you! :P

3. Yes, media is the plural of medium...
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 03:56 AM by Spider Jerusalem
like "data" is the plural of "datum", and "fora" is the plural of "forum", u.s.w. (One would think that you'd have resigned yourself to the fact that 90% of the population doesn't know how to use the language properly...)

4. But if I told people
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 06:50 AM by asthmaticeog
that I worked in a medium, they'd think I was talking about uniform size. So the grammatically and technically incorrect "I'm in media" is necessary for clarity.

edit: misspelled "grammatically." Haw haw!

5. That's why you tell people which medium you work in...
"I'm in radio", for instance...

7. The media are. The medium is.
I will accept "media" as kind of a generic class -- I work in media. I am the very model of the modern liberal media. But, my specific medium is print magazine.

I actually got into an argument WITH A READER OF MY MAGAZINE who wanted to point out our crappy grammar. I actually ended up faxing him a page from the AP stylebook to shut him up.

10. Much as I'm a stickler for traditionally "correct" useage
...there is no escaping the "norma loquendi"--the popular useage of the day. What some of us consider sloppy language useage today might become the traditionally correct useage of tomorrow. Language evolves. (I myself am still mourning the loss of the familiar "thou" and "ye".)
