Classic, "Must See" movies?
What are some good classic movies? Classic meaning both older films and movies that just have an awesome "I can't believe you haven't seen that movie, it's a classic!" type quality.

Help me fill up my Netflix queue! ;)

2. Kathleen if Netflex has "Before Sunrise", get it, then go see the
one that is out now, "Before Sunset" still the same writer and the same cast 9 years later. Believe me great movie(s). Sunset is a continuation of Sunrise.

70. Seconding
Oh, yes, it's just beautiful.

The book is my favorite thing ever written (hence my name here), but the movie is brilliant and, I think, one of the best adaptations to screen of all time. Probably not least of all because Harper Lee was pretty closely involved in the whole thing. I don't think it's possible to imagine someone other than Gregory Peck as Atticus. It's quite remarkable, in fact, that he filled that role so incredibly spot on. Made me a fan for life.

My great fear is that someone someday is going to think "hey we should make a remake" and get Vin Diesel or some such nonsense as Atticus. The horror would be too much to bear.

Imagine the Pope wishing he could resign, he gets his wish, and he goes off to a poor village in Italy on a mission unknown to him. Stars Tom Conti in one of his best roles, and Giancarlo Giannini.

And treat yourself to "A Face in the Crowd" with Andy Griffith, Patricia Neal, and Walter Matthau, directed by Elia Kazan.

16. I have a couple for this one
Ok, i tend to watch a lot of movies and being that im only 22 but have a DVD and VHS collection pushing 1200 movies......i guess i can chime in on this.

Number 1 movie everyone should be forced to watch at least once: Schindlers List

Number 2 movie everyone should be forced to watch at least once: Dr. Stangelove

The list goes on for a while but those two are the ones everyone should watch. If you wanna break it down into catagories.

Sci-fi - The Abyss
Horror - Alien
Comedy - the above mentioned Dr. Stranglove
Action - The Matrix (yeah its new but it broke a lot of ground)
Animated - Ghost in the Shell (out of Japan)

I really hate to break them up into groups like that. There are just too many to really put into different lists so everyone just watch what you like and Im sure that at some point you will find something you think is the best movie.

The Post Restoration Japanese attempt at art is about in line with the German's attempt to post 1933 art...

"Form" is crap - if you have to explain to an audience why you should like any given media - it's crap!

That's not to say Kurosawa wasn't doing the best with what he could - hell, me wrote Star Wars, but please - these movies suck unless you are a serious flim/english student

31. Just a few suggestions...
Not necessarily classics, but great movies that I've seen, off the top of my head...

1. The Devil's Advocate
2. Magnolia
3. Manchurian Candidate (old one, haven't seen the new one)
4. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
5. American Beauty
6. Requiem of a Dream

Just off the top of my head. Hafta point out that Magnolia was probably the best movie I've ever seen, with respect to the production and direction, Requiem of a Dream is a close second.
