I've been asked to go to The Office of Homeland Security next month!
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 05:50 PM by daveskilt
amazingly 18 months ahead of the 999 business days they said it would take - I am having a citizenship interview and test on October 28th (my 30th birthday) and even more staggeringly it looks like I may have a job at last as well.

ask me anything!!!

1. Awesome! You can vote!
Well, I work as an immigration paralegal and I deal everyday with the length of time it takes USCIS to take a bowel movement, much less process naturalization applications.

Depending on the outcome of this election, I may pursue my U.S. naturalization (though I will retain Italian citizenship). If * is reelected, I will have lost all faith in the intelligence of the electorate and I will give up, possibly considering a relocation to Italy. If Kerry wins, I'll be filing my N-400 on November 3.

2. You won't be the only one filing a N 400.

3. it could go through and I could register before nov2???????
really? no way! I assumed it would be a few months after the interview before they made me a citizen and i would miss out on voting. or I would have to register before then.

6. There will be Repub campaign workers at the ceremony
handing out voter registration forms with your Republican party affiliation conveniently filled out for you already:

7. So take the form, let them think you're gonna vote R
F with their minds . . . then switch registration later.

5. Citizenship
I went through this in April and I was told at the end of my interview that I had been recommended for citizenship. The problem is that you then have to wait for the notification of swearing in and that took 2 months for me. You are not a citizen until then - at the ceremony you get a certificate which you then take to the town hall. Good luck - if you study the civics part its pretty easy!
