The Official Kerry Throat Cure thread
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 11:51 AM by rocknation
Once when I was watching Court TV, one of the commentators sneezed. After a commerical break, the commentator thanked the nearly two hundred people who'd sent "Bless you" and cold cure e-mails within five minutes! Well, we need to do the same for Kerry so he'll be in shape for the first debate next week, so let's put together a list of remedies!

I'll start with chamomile tea with a shot of Jack Daniels--works wonders on my monthly cramps!

3. gargling with any
mouthwash or tincture containing echinacea (the Natural Dentist has a great product that's widely available in most drug stores) expedites healing tremendously.

Gargling with lukewarm salt water is also helpful.

Lemon, honey and hot water is an old Yankee cure.

Bi Yan Pian is an over the counter Chinese botanical medication for sore throats.

Lot's of lozenges help as well.

A vow of silence would help for speedy recovery but is somewhat impractical.

7. Time, sad to say.
Colds aren't "curable." They must be endured. The symptoms can be ameliorated, of course, but the actual disease is that way....

When I get the chest cold, it's three basics for me: guifenesen (a mucus thinner) ketoprophen (3rd generation non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain reliever) and an expectorant. No cough suppressors (if I'm trying to cough the crap out, why would I want to suppress the cough??) and nothing that makes me sleep or wakeful. Pseudoephedrine does strange things to my head, so if I need a decongestant, it has to be either dextromathorphan or ephedrine.

Herbs don't do crap for me but give me something to do while I'm waiting for the virus to run its course.

For JK's sake, he'll probably be okay for the debates, maybe a little froggy. Colds run about 7 days.

9. another simpler Chinese cure is
simmering several slices of ginger and scallions in water for about twenty minutes. Add brown sugar or honey to taste. That one only works at the earliest stages though.

I've a whole list of Chinese over the counter cures that are cheap and really work. PM me if you want the list. I got it from a highly respected Chinese Doc. For under ten bucks you can purchase a year's supply to get over colds and influenza in 3 days instead of week/s without side effects. They're really amazing.

11. could I add some soy or miso to the mix instead of sugar?
That sounds like lunch! Add a bit of frozen tofu or shrimp or chicken and some noodles.... yum....

Considering that we've got the inconsiderate team lead from hell who comes to the office while a plague monkey means that we're really careful to wash hands every time we touch her or she comes near, or breathes....

Gotta love the plague monkeys. Don't they know what sick time is for?

Oh... yeah. Vacation in the Bahamas.

10. Throat Coat
I don't remember who makes it but it's called Throat Coat--I get it at the grocery store in the natural foods section. It's great.
