I just got an iPod, please recommend some music!
I managed to find a real good deal on ebay (20gig 2nd gen for <$100 shipped) so I made the plunge.

Wow. iPod kicks ass. Apple quality.

Anyway, I've loaded up my entire music colleciton, and I've still got 15gigs to fill. What do you guys like? I'm open to anything except country, and would really like to find some good indie stuff that can be had free or cheap.

Thanks!

American Idiot by Green Day is a nice theme song for the minute
Fortunate Son by Creedence Clear Water and Masters of War by Dylan are also great themes

Any Bob Marley is worth you time, also Johnny Cash is great for feeling like someone with some brains is on your side.

6. thanks for the suggestions
I actually collected a bunch of different versions of Fortunate son a while ago, but I should get some more CCR.

Never managed to get into Marley, even when in a marley state of mind.
Johnny Cash - I'll give him a try.

14. Emmylou Harris' latest is good
And I'm with you on the hating country music. Actually the Dixiie Chicks aren't bad. They're more folky and country as far as I'm concerned.

4. How about instrumental stuff?
I'm really digging a group I found out about recently called Twelve Girls Band. They're a group of Chinese girls who pay traditional instruments, and their style is fairly eclectic--they have stuff that ranges from Celtic/New Agey to rock to jazz and everything inbetween. I've been talking them up to pretty much everyone lately. :)

17. Try CD Universe
Here's a CD Universe link to their Eastern Energy CD, it has samples of all the tracks (I only got them working in Real Media though):

24. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
If I could be stuck with one album (and a solar-powered playing device) on a desert island I would choose Yoshimi.

Someone else suggested 'American Idiot' by Green Day... I understand this is a solid album as well if you're not into prog rock :)
