Digital Video techie question
K... for all the techie nerds out there... I've been doing some analog to digital video conversion at home and have been running into a slight issue. The video and sound record okay, but on playback they are out of sync (ie. the words don't match the mouth movements). After some research I discover that the cause is I'm routing video through the capture card and audio through the sound card; which because they are seperate and have their own drivers etc, doesn't always snyc up... So, having said this what I want to know is:

1) What's a good peice of *perferably free* software I could use to re-synch the sound track with the video track?

2) Is there a better way to capture the video *again at low cost* where I can avoid having to use the solution from #1?

What kind of capture card? What edit software? If you let me know I can get back to you later in the evening...

The first thing I'd try is just uncoupling the audio in the timeline and sliding it to match, but that might not work. I've heard of this problem getting worse over time, ie: it might be 2 frames off in the beginning, but by the end of the clip it's 10 frames off. In that case the sliding trick would not work.

Rick

on edit: what CPU speed, operating system and RAM???

4. It's just a cheap TV Wonder card
It's for home use, so nothing special (but I can use it as a TV tuner with Guide plus etc, so it's a neat, cheap toy). I'm working off an analog tape that hooks into the card via the cable, and currently feeding in the sound through the input on the sound card (as the capture card instructions tell me). I'm using Pinnacle studio 9 SE to capture/edit. I've also got MoviMaker 2, but the capture process is what's giving me the issue.

Computer is a 2GHZ machine with a brand new 120 gig Hard drive and 1GB of RAM so I don't think speed or memory are an issue.

Suggestions welcome, thanks!

2. What capture card are you using?
Every analog card I've used has both video and audio inputs.

Do you have firewire and a DV cam? If so, you can plug your analog source into the DV cam and dump it via firewire.

5. This is one of the best sites out there for this
http://www.videohelp.com/

They have a lot of info for capturing, editing, burning and so on. They also have a great forum. I would start there.
