Although I come from a Punk Rock Past...
I now find the cinematic themes of Henry Mancini strangely soothing and stuff. Anybody else like this stuff...

1. Breakfast at Tiffany's...
One of my faves. Punk rocker past here, too. Maybe there's a connection?!

11. The only Barry Manilow I've ever heard was on Angel
I guess that shows how young I am. :)

It got to be way past my bedtime! You mean this guy? His first band? It's starting to come back to me...(I'm really old, ya know) Why, yes, I do believe that is where I got the name. :7

So, you didn't believe the Barry Manilow thing?

4. I'm pushing 40. Loved the Clash and Pistols
and the numerous DIYers that formed in their wake--Simple Minds, Devo, Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, Japan, blah, blah, blah.

I still love them, but after a while I realized that Lawrence Welk's 'Calcutta' kicks some pretty good ass! No sarcasm, I'm serious. The Ultra-Lounge series on Capitol is really amazing.

On a similar note: Kevin Spacey is due to appear as Bobby Darin in a biopic, even though he's much older than when Darin died at 37. I'll be happy, tho', if it causes a BD revival. Now HE kicked ass!

6. How much is "much older"?
Kevin is 45 and the film is in the can. It will be released before Christmas. Actually, it just had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. He tried to make it for a long time, but couldn't get anyone in the US interested. He ended up getting it financed in the UK. Go figure.

BTW, you can download the trailer here:

12. MUCH older.
How old was Darin when 'Splish Splash' came out? 25 tops?

I'm just glad Spacey finally did it. I saw him sing some BD on Baba Wawa or some such thing and he blew me away.

17. Adore the Ultra Lounge series
Perfect for martinis.

I actually must correct you, however...Devo was already around in 1979, part of the Akron sound. They would probably be pretty insulted if they thought people believed them "derived" from anything.

(Still have my flowerpot hat from the 1980 tour--I think it was 1980)

7. not so unusual
I'm 47, played in bands from '71-94. usually covered either Peter Gunn or Elephant Walk in some way. depending on what substance we were using sometimes we'd mix them up and add a days of wine and roses bridge. if sid could cover my way...

8. I've always liked soundtrack music
It's so GRAND. I'm an old punker also, and one of my favorite CD's in recent years is the one that Elvis Costello did with Burt Bacharach, "Painted From Memory". If you haven't heard it, it's wonderful.

14. punk rock hell yeah
I'm 39 and I voted for Nader last time (don't worry, I live in Cali and I didn't hurt Gore a bit).

I like the old bands such as Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, and the Ramones, but I also like "new school" bands Dropkick Murphys, NOFX, and Pressure Point. :headbang:

16. Oh, I love the Dead Kennedys, too
Who can forget that lovely ballad of theirs, "Too drunk to fuck?"

A classic, I tell you. They played it at our wedding. :7
