Not the first one in your life but I mean ever, because for a while, the democrats weren't the better party, nor were the republicans good but, really who would be the first democratic candiate, you'd vote for. After must deliberation, I had to go with Al Smith.

The sad thing is Smith later started supporting republicans like Landon and Wilkie and according to Wikipedia, his son supported Nixon in 1960, the only Catholic to do so ;).

3. in mine too
You got coal miner blood too if I recall, right? I love FDR but I think in 1928 I would have supported Smith over Hoover. Now FDR I would have adored, I always get teary eyed when I hear Truman aunnonce V-E day, I think if only FDR had lived to see that day.

2. TR or Lincoln.
TR for the enviromentalism and anti-monopolism, Lincoln for seeing the end of slaverism (sort of).

6. I gotcha
FDR would been the first I'd really love. He's always been my favorite president, him and Lincoln both just wow.

7. A good question...
Bryan's 1898 run against McKinley I might have supported, though him being a religious fundamentalist may have convinced me to choose differently.

T. Roosevelt was far too much of an imperialist for me to back him against Wilson and Taft, in that election I probably would have gone for Wilson.

I probably would have voted for the Democrats opposing every 1920s Republican president. Obviously, I would have supported Roosevelt in all four of his elections.

8. well honestly
the 1920's is tough. I probably would have supported Debs in 1920, Fightin Bob LaFallite in 1924, Smith in 1928. LaFalliote was more of a progressive than Teddy Roosevelt. I dont know about Wilson though. Of course FDR at the latest for me, but Smith I'd consider and from then on in. I can see why you may be repulsed by Jennings Bryan though, I think I would have supported him maybe.
