What are your favorite CDs of 2004 so far?
Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 01:50 AM by mvd
I did this before and didn't get much response, so I'll try again now that more releases are out. I'll ask for final lists after the holiday season. Picks must be 2004 releases.

My top 10 (no order - all A+ or A grade: )

Penelope Houston - Pale Green Girl (A+)
Abra Moore - Everything Changed (A+)
Patti Smith - Trampin' (A+)
Butterfly Boucher - Flutterby (A)
Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin (A)
Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous (A+)
The Corrs - Borrowed Heaven (A - and that's their lowest grade!)
A.C. Newman - Slow Wonder (A+)
Green Day - American Idiot (heard album at full album listening party) (A+)
Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose (A+)

Other very noteworthy CDs:

Steve Earle - The Revolution Starts.. Now (A)
Indigo Girls - All That We Let In (A)
Skye Sweetnam - Noise From The Basement (B+ - ignore the critics who bashed this and the Sarah Hudson album. Some reviewers (including the Entertainment Weekly reviewers) who bashed them aren't usually open to this type of music anyway.)
Sarah Hudson - Naked Truth (B+)
Maria Mena - White Turns Blue (A)
Alanis Morissette - So Called Chaos (B+)
Finn Brothers - Everyone Is Here (A-)
Katy Rose - Because I Can (A-)
PJ Harvey - Uh Huh Her (A-)
Tim McGraw - Live Like You Were Dying (B+)
Hanson - Underneath (A-)
Mindy Smith - One Moment More (A-)
Mary Lou Lord - Baby Blue (A-)
Bad Religion - Empire Strikes First (A-)

Biggest disappointment:

Ashlee Simpson - Autobiography (C+)

The upcoming CD from Bonnie McKee sounds like top 10 stuff - and U2, R.E.M., and more have new albums coming out. This list will most likely change.

1. Only one I can recommend...
I don't usually buy CD's, just burn singles off the 'net.

But, everyone should buy...
GARDEN STATE!!! The best!

Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 01:49 AM by Kennethken
I think that may be the only 2004 release I've bought. I do like it though, so that should count for something. :hi:

edit to add: Tower Of Power if their newest is 2004 and not late-2003, I don't remember. . .

61. I agree, too, but I also like Mavis Staples' new gospel cd
"Have a Little Faith".

Prince's cd is an awesome combination of styles. He's a musical genius.

31. How do you know?
Avril could be a member. If she is, she will probably be very hurt by what Byron said. What if Yoko Ono is a member? She may cry herself to sleep at night thinking of the hateful things you have said about her.

Why can't we all just join hands and sing "Get Together?"

Oh, that's right. Because it sucks.

10. Not sure when "Permission To Land" came out
But if it was 2003, it was LATE 2003. The Darkness rule, I love that band... but I grew up on 70's glam rock, so you'll have to bear with me. So nice to hear a GUITAR SOLO again!

I like the new Dido cd. I know, total fluff, but there is just something about that woman's voice that makes me want to have sex with her all the time.
