Reuters concert review: The Pixies at the Greek

The Pixies

By John Lappen

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Like it or not, every generation has its version of classic rock.

The baby boomers of the 1950s and '60s have Chuck Berry and the Beatles, '70s music fans have Led Zeppelin and the Who, and for those who came of age in the late '80s-early '90s, the Pixies fit the bill nicely.

So for the packed house in attendance during the first night of two sold-out Pixies shows at the Greek Theater, the band's 90-minute set certainly brought back memories of college days, the halcyon days of indie rock and all of the good fun that part of one's life entails.

With probably the hottest reunion tour going right now, the Pixies -- Frank Black (vocals, guitar), Joey Santiago (guitar), David Lovering (drums) and Kim Deal (bass, vocals) -- hadn't played together in 12 years until launching a comeback this year with a series of self-described "warm-up dates." Now, with months of European gigs behind them, the band is in the early stages of its North American tour. From the enthusiastic response of the Los Angeles crowd and the committed playing of the band, it should be one hell of a tour. <snip>

I would kill to see one of these shows, well, maybe injure.
