My parents live in SW. Louisiana. They had barely sent their New Orleans friends home when they saw the remnants of Ivan back in the Gulf and heading for them. It's amazing.

Yesterday was fine.
I found the people in the area friendly. Not just courtesy friendly as in Oahu, but actually friendly. We could walk around at night without fear. (You can in most places on Oahu also.)

However the local rag, The St. Petersburg Times is noticeable slanted to the right. The TV had mostly war/violent movies. And I thought this area was repug.

I like Snopes.com, but sometimes their debunk-o-mania gets the better of them.

The lines indicating the paths of Hurricanes Charley and Frances are basically correct; they track the position of the eye. This is the accepted method for tracking a hurricane's path.

Ivan's path, though, is incorrect, and it should be over toward the West.

Snopes' debunkery focused on the width of the area of damage; they should have looked into which counties voted for whom.

Snopes erred on the side of being pecksniffish with this one. The idea that God sent the hurricanes to punish right-wingers is absurd on the face of it. Considering that Jeanne is due to cross into Florida tonight, this could become a classic of political humor.

But no, not divine revelation.

This one is a multi-season hurricane that visits Florida only during the fall.

Damn, I was there for Charley and David but bow back in Las Vegas, plenty of lumber and no demand. My dad and I put all the outdoor furniture and other potential projectiles back outside last Sunday, completely ignorant there would be another hurricane so soon. Now he's visiting my sister in Orlando thru the weekend and mom is in Miami, no way to get that stuff back inside.
