DVD collectors: what have you got?
What are some rare/out-of-print titles that you own, and do you watch them or keep them locked away?

I have a few, all from the Criterion Collection:
Criterion "Robocop."
Criterion "Last Temptation of Christ."
Criterion "Dead Ringers."

And of course I got suckered into buying what I thought was the holy grail of rare DVD's, Criterion's "Salo." Here's a hint: if it's selling for $60, it's not the Criterion release of "Salo."

I also managed to snag a copy of "Ed Wood" before it was recalled.

I own some of the very first DVDs commercially released, but they're not worth anything.

"Ed Wood" is the only one I keep sealed.

1. I managed to snag a Region 0 copy of "Johnny Got His Gun"
I'm planning on donating it to the local library branch -- this is an amazing film, and they haven't even got it on VHS.

5. I read that book while I was in the Navy during the first Gulf war
Needless to say it left me depressed.

For some reason I also picked up Ron Kovic's "Born on the 4th of July" which I read on my way to the Persian Gulf for Desert Shield (October 1990).

all the out of print Criterion Hitchcocks and Kurosawas (I've got all the Criterion Hitchcocks and Kurosawas!) as well as Criterion's M, though that's going to be rereleased soon (like their version of Charade.)

I had a really hard time finding this.
Almodovar's Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

I don't even wanna get into the saga of me trying to get this movie. However, it was way worth it

10. Lots of rare discs, but nothing valuable
Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 09:11 PM by Tummler
My rare ones tend to be imported editions, usually of obscure foreign movies or TV shows. I have plenty of OOP titles as well, but again, I doubt any of them are particularly valuable. I don't keep anything locked away; all my titles are for watching. Of course, I do take excellent care of the discs and packaging to preserve both playability and resale value.

Here's the DVD Aficionado catalog of my humble collection (which is actually shrinking right now, as I'm selling off some of the dross):

http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?id=tummler (index, by genre)
http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=1&sub=All&id=tummler (full list)

Although DVD Aficionado has thousands of users, there are plenty of titles I've had to submit to the database due to their rarity.

If any other DUers use an online DVD catalog (e.g., DVD Profiler or DVD Aficionado), please post a link to your collection!

13. Just a few
The first five season of Are You Being Served, plus bonus DVD
F*ck the Disabled, based on disabled comic Greg Walloch's act
Gosford Park
Some episodes of Carol Burnett and Laugh-in I bought off TV
At least one naughty DVD

I think that's about it. I haven't worked hard on building a collection.
