If the Sox had a decent manager that would've pulled Pedro in game 7 last year, the Sox would've won.
The Yankees haven't won their last 2 WS. So STFU on that they "buy" their rings BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T WON IN THE PAST 4 YEARS! 2000 was their last WS ring, against the Mets.

Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 10:18 PM by stoptheinsandity
i grew up a yanks (and buffalo bills) fan, stopped watching with the strike (when mattingly retired). loved them in the mel hall/hawkinson/mattingly days. loved them then in the same way i loved the bills; namely, a team that had "personality" and weren't a bunch of clones who all claimed to possess "character" and "class", which are b*llsh*t covers for "can be bought for a price" and "don't possess a pinstripe of personality"...

on edit: fixed tense (partially)

45. then you need to watch these Yankees...
They have heart and soul.
Derek Jeter is one of the most inspirational atheltes that I have had the pleasure of see grow from rookie to star; he plays because he LOVES the game- NOT because he wants money.
Posada is like Munson. TONS of soul.
Williams is the quiet spirit on the team, but he ALWAYS comes through.
Rivera is the silent destroyer and a deeply religious man.
What team have you been watching? I've been watching a team with HEART.

48. logic isn't your strong subject is it?
If money = WS rings, then the Yankees must have won every year that they have the highest payroll.
We know this to be false.
If Torre = success, then the Yankees must have won every year that Torre was manager.
We know this to be false.
Now, both statements are false, yet you set up a contradiction: If Torre fails, money supplies the Yankees with victory. If money fails, then Torre provides victory.
But both are FALSE.

I seem to remember Ken Griffey Jr. coming around to score the winning run in game 5, but I could be wrong on that.

Sadly, some Sox fans think because their team fucking sucks means that they should win the WS every year because those evil Yankees "buy" their rings...:eyes:

"my team has a media market that dwarves the sox media market and thus produces much more revenue, and we can afford to get any player that we want, but we shouldn't be held accountable when people call us buying our wins",

You said the Yankees BUY their players.
But when they can't it's because of their lack of prospects??
Which is it??

62. inferiority complex much?
the sox have always negotiated terrible tv deals--don't blame the yankees for the sox's own ineptitude. the NY market doesn't seem to be helping the mets too much, you know?

70. mets don't have the history the yanks do
mets came about in the 60's, yanks have been around since the turn of the century. if you're even trying to incinuate that the NY media market is similar to the boston media market in terms of size, then you've already discredited yourself...

76. I'm a Yankees fan and am happy
I became a fan of the Yankees when my grandmother, who was a huge Yankees fan, died. The Phillies are my first team, and the Yankees, Cardinals, and Orioles are all teams I root for secondary to the Phillies. So loyalty is more of a factor where the Yankees are concerned than loving the organization. I do love the Yankees history, though.

80. I know - it doesn't bother me personally
The Phillies had a big payroll but the players lacked the heart. Money is a factor, but the Yankees must also do a good job of picking managers and putting together team chemistry.

as a partial orioles fan I bet you know that. I don't like the yankees but I'll defend them with facts and I'll go after them with facts, as with anyone. That's because I am the fact nazi though.

84. I still am heartbroken from the mid 90's you gotta understand
We're starting to hit good though, Miguel leads the league in RBI's, Javy and Melvin are in the top of the BA list, if only Raffy had a year like he did in the glory days, we'd done damn better, plus we didn't have a true ace, what pitchers are available for free agency this year? I am so glad we didnt Aaron Sele after all.

87. I think so
Phillies will have better pitching in the future, and if I recall, their offense was pretty good..it was just pitching and defense that bit them (which is common for a team with potential).

88. Agreed - the offense needed some more clutch hits, though
Maybe they can find a player that will help them there in the off-season. I don't think Bowa, the manager, is a problem. Thanks for your reply - it's been good talking with you. :hi:
