7. I used to like the Del Fuegos, too.
Modern Lovers were from Boston. So was DMZ, The Neighborhoods, Willie Alexander, Unnatural Axe, La Peste... A lot of more obscure ones like Someone and the Somebodies, The Young Snakes, V, The Stains (a personal favorite of mine), Human Sexual Response, Lou Miami... and many, many more even more obscure ones.

I lived in Boston in 1982-1983, and in Portland, Maine, where a lot of those bands gigged, from 1978-1980. I don't know what's going on in Boston these days.

12. By golly I think you are right!
But then so was the Beacon Street Union, come to think of it...

I was born in Boston and have fond memories there from my extreme youth...Went back to visit and was struck by the lack of curiosity my so-called relatives had...They didn't seem to give a shit about anything!

21. Aerosmith actually has roots in NH.
Lake Sunapee NH. They palyed at "THe Barn", a great little rustic club up in the mountain/lakes region.
Read "Walk This Way". The autobiography of Aerosmith. Its a great read.

13. Roomful of Blues made their mark in Boston . . .
althought they were originally from Providence, I think . . . the Radio Kings are a good band . . . as are/were Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers . . . there's more, but my head isn't as clear as it should be right now . . . :)

26. I must have seen them live 25 times during that period.
First time was 1972 at Canobie Lake Park in Salem NH. The next year they backed up ZZ Top at The Gah-Den. In 1974 they headlined The Gah-den.
Damn, those were great times.

28. I might know a few
My favorite band in Boston is Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, but maybe they don't count for this post because Burma's Roger Miller founded Birdsongs as a side project, and then it became his main group when his tinnitis got too severe-- so Birdsongs is clearly in the Burma heritage.

Then there's also:
Mascara (not the makeup; the singer/guitarist's name is Chris Mascara)
Cul de Sac (still cool, even though I'm not in it any more)
Magonia (also instrumental, "post rock")
Dreamchild (folk-goth in a Dead Can Dance vein)
Amber Spyglass (more rockin' goth)
Turkish Queen (lo-fi experimental female empowerment all over the map)

And of course the band I play in now, Tim Mungenast and his Pre-Existing Conditions. (We're opening for Nik Turner's Space Seeds at the Milky Way on October 4th.)
