I've Got to Start Getting More Rest!
Staying up too late looking for news on the internet is starting to take its toll during work hours.

I was in my boss' office yesterday about halfway between lunch and going-home time, reviewing some dry, esoteric data. I was sitting behind him as he pulled up data on his computer, and I felt my eyes crossing - the sure sign that I'm in danger of nodding. And nod off I did at one point - even started to dream - but he had his back turned to me and didn't notice (I hope). He spoke, which startled me, and I nearly pitched the ream of papers I was holding. He still had his back to me when I opened my eyes, but there's no disguise for that double vision.

I related in an earlier thread how this problem affects me during a weekly department meeting, and someone's suggestion of sipping a soda has worked well the past few weeks. I wasn't feeling drowsy at all before I went to my boss' office yesterday, so I didn't have the foresight to get a soda beforehand. At least I haven't nodded off as badly as one fellow at these meetings...he actually started snoring!

I drink an entire pot of coffee during the day, but I guess I'll have to fix another one after lunch. I fear that the scenario described above could occur during my 25-mile commute home. I've felt the onset of drowsiness during this drive, and that's frightening! I'm considering seeing the doctor about this, but I'm loath to take any sort of stimulant. Still, it sure beats the alternative...

Perhaps I should just get to bed earlier, but that's difficult for a news junkie. All you sleep-deprived DUers, please contribute any strategies you have for coping with drowsiness.
