Adventures in Home Remodeling
8:30 AM - start removing the first of three windows to be replaced in the bedroom we are currently remodeling.

8:45 AM - accidentally knock out about 6 bricks from the wall outside said window.

9:15 AM - finish removing said window, and start modifying the rough opening to fit the new window.

10:00 AM - hear a LOUD racket from the back yard. discover that the air compressor has finally gave up the ghost (hell, it was new in 1975)

10:30 AM - finish re-rough-framing for the new window.

11:00 AM - finish installing the new window in the rough opening. take a break.

12:00 noon - head to Lowe's. Buy mortar, trowels, bucket, caulk, and a brand new 60 gallon air compressor (to be delivered monday). Apologzie to wife for spending so much money. take another break.

2:00 PM - mix mortar and replace bricks from step 2. quit for the day.

TOTAL accomplished : only one of three windows replaced and spent way too much money.

maybe next weekend will be better.

1. Ahhh the joys of home ownership
Been there, done that...3 times. No, didn't make a lot of money for our sweat equity but, that's another story.

Seriously, if you love the house and the neighborhood it's worth the effort. :hi:

3. we LOVE the house and neighborhood...
built 1939, 2 br 1 bath cottage in the arts district in fort worth tx.

believe it or not, fort worth has some of the finest museums in the world. within 5 or 6 blocks is the kimball, the museum of modern art, amon carter museum, the omni science museum, and the cowgirl hall of fame.

2. sounds like you're right
on track 4 a DIY project.

Rule of thumb from DIY vet: Any project always costs twice as much and takes 3 times longer.
