Well, that really sucked!
I'm scheduled to do a century ride tomorrow on my bike, so I figured I would do a quick 10-15 mile jaunt before work to loosen up. Since my road bike is lubed and ready to go in my trunk, I figured I would ride my hybrid.

I had just done about 11 miles and then it happened. I got a flat. Only problem was, my tools are on my other bike. Well, I had my cell, so I figured I would just call my dad to rescue me since he lives fairly close.

Guess what? My cell phone is apparently broken/out of service right now for some unknown reason. And, since I was just going for a quick jaunt, no money.

I ended up walking my bike about 6 miles home and since I had my cleated, hard-soled cycling shoes on, it sucked even more. I ended up being over an hour late for work as a result.

All my fault. All preventable. It will NEVER happen again.

Just wanted to rant. So, how was your day?

5. That certainly sounds more painful
How did that happen? Where did you get stung? Are you OK now?

9. I was moving a couple plants outside.
I felt what I thought were thorns or sticks, but they were actually bees. :hurts: I got one in my left leg and one in my left hand. I'm okay now.

2. Sorry to hear about that!
I did thirty miles myself yesterday evening. I love biking in the Fall, and for my birthday my brother gave me a Garmin GPS (read: a toy I can pretend is useful), so I can get a more accurate read of my pace and distance both biking and running.

Walking six miles is good for you too, though. :D

6. Sounds like a cool toy
I just have a cyclometer. I did 70 miles last Sunday, 35 Monday and took a few days off for rest and repair. That's why I really felt I needed to do a few miles today.

I love fall, too. The colors are just starting to come out here. Tomorrow's event is in SW Michigan, so not far north enough for it to be a good show yet. The weather prediction is fabulous.

I don't mind walking. In fact, hiking is my next favorite activity. I just prefer not to do it in cycling shoes.

How's the weather in your area? Will you be able to go for a cruise tomorrow?

17. I'm doing a six mile run tomorrow
We are currently in the middle of Minnesota's three week period of nice weather. :)

3. I hate when that happens
I rely on my cell phone, but I know there are areas where I ride (far out of town) where there is spotty coverage, and I am NOT a mechanic by any measure...though I can change a flat.

Good luck on your upcoming century.

7. Oh, I can and have changed a flat
The problem was that my tools were in my gear bag on the other bike. I was still in town, so I don't know what the problem was with the phone.

Thanks for the good wishes. The weather promises to be good, but my allergies and asthma have been giving me a lot of problems. I'll take my meds and an inhaler with me, but if it proves to be too bothersome, I won't push myself to get in 100. I've already done a couple of centuries this season, so I have nothing to prove to myself.

4. Oh, man.
I know how much it sucks to walk in those cycling shoes. They aren't exactly flexible. Ouch!

8. No, they certainly aren't
At least I have ones with recessed cleats. Too much broken glass (why I got a flat) and debris to go barefoot.

10. My IE crashed yesterday.....
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 07:53 PM by greatauntoftriplets
Came home and could not get online. After nearly 2 hours on the phone with HP and the allegedly "best tech at the place" the damn thing still did not work. Tried HP for nearly 1 1/2 hours this morning with someone who was totally clueless.

In a desperate effort to post a message to a very special DU member last evening, I hied my wild-eyed, sweat-soaked self to a neighbors (progressives who would understand perfectly). They set me up on their AOHell connection and I sent the intended message.

Then introduced me to their under-employed (sigh, re the economy...) nephew who happens to be a computer systems engineer. He came over today and spent 2 1/2 hours futzing with the blasted machine.

Bottom line: IE is still screwed, he loaded adware and got rid of a bunch of bad files and I am now operating on Mozilla Firefox. It works faster than IE, but I am still having problems finding a few links. Have Yahoo Messengered others about that.

So, my day did improve. I hope that yours does, too, and that you have a great century ride tomorrow. Have fun!

Edited for stupid spelling error.

14. Thanks, mlle_chatte.
Mozilla is very fast. But I am still learning....

This was the neighbor's nephew, not mine. Sadly, my own nephew knows very little about computers, but is good for other things. This guy is getting a case of his favorite beer tomorrow. He has earned it.

19. So far, I like Mozilla.
I am considering getting a testosterone-laden tower to replace what I have now. Part of the problem is that I upgraded my hard drive and the friend who replaced it left the old one in as a backup. The genius neighbor thinks that is part of the problem. Also got rid of a bunch of spyware and left a fix for me to use. :)

11. Sorry, Proles.
I've just been sleepy -- I drank too much last night and didn't sleep well.
Your day sounds far suckier.

Good luck with the century ride tomorrow!

18. Isn't that weird?
Even though alcohol is a depressant, it screws with your sleep.

Hope you feel better. Are you doing it all over again tonight?

We'll see about the ride. It's that time of year and my allergies and newly diagnosed asthma are wreaking havoc, but I'm not going to let them win. I may have to shorten my ride, though, if it gets to be too much.

21. No alcohol tonight for me, thanks.
I'll be crashing early, which theoretically should resolve the tired issue.

You show those allergies who's boss.
