The people on DU have the most KEEN sense of humor! Truly witty and creative souls!
Then I began to think back on all the Repugs I have known and currently know. I realized that not ONE of them has a sense of humor!
The only thing "close" is teasing, and when I say teasing, it is very mean spirited in nature. Like teasing a man for becoming bald, or a person for being fat.
No wonder I don't like them.
What is your take on this?

1. Republicans think partisan attacks
are "humor." Occasionally they'll tell a real joke that is funny, but most of the time it's just lame. And I can certainly laugh at myself/Dems.

3. That laughing during TV attacks is just pseudo acting.
It certainly isn't actual humor or clever, for that matter.
I agree what humor the repugs do display is lame.
I guess you could say they lack personality.

2. You got a point there
And I bet if a study were done it would find that the playground bullies grew up to become Repukes. Are any artists Repukes? I think not.

5. Can't think of the word, darn!
Those rich people who give money to benefit humanity.
Ever been a repug one who gave to humanity in the broad sense?

20. Philanthropy = love of people
Lots of republicans lack this. They also seem deathly afraid of having a good time. Have you looked at most republicans? They are not happy people and don't want anyone else to be happy either. There actually is a psychiatric problem called anhedonia, the inability to feel joy. They have it bad and try to spread it everywhere they go.

4. Democratic humor is at the expense of the powerful; Republican humor...
...is at the expense of the traditionally oppressed. I know which kind of humor *I* think is funnier!

6. I watched a documentary of the FTAA Miami protests

The protesters were intelligent and extremely witty.

The cops were automatons just doing their job. They marched in lockstep and took every opportunity to hurt anyone they could. Do fascists have a sense of humor? Was Auschwitz a joke? Skeletal people in slave labor camps being worked and starved and beaten to death or shot or gassed for corporate profit and Nazi ideology -- and even then some of them (Victor Frankel) managed to retain a sense of humor. But the guards? The party bigwigs who ordered it all? The people who profited from it? Those who knew what was going on and did nothing? These people have no sense of humor any more than they have a sense of decency. An example of fascist humor is the guys on the Enron tapes laughing about how they stole money from poor little old ladies. Or Abu Ghraib prison guards laughing about the people they are torturing. Or RW media folks saying it was just a little hazing like a frat party. Teasing? Meanspirited, yes; teasing, no.

The iron heel crushing the human spirit has no sense of humor. Enjoyment of another's pain or humiliation isn't evidence of a sense of humor, it is evidence of sadism and bullying.

8. Oddly enough, I try to keep the humor apolitical in the Lounge.
With the occasional Bushie or Repuke barb. I figure there's so many forums, blogs, radio shows, etc. out there that I just need a cooling point with some like-minded people.

10. The real Repubs we worry about are of a type
To be honest, they are convinced of their own superiority.
It's very hard to have a sense of humor when you think of yourself as the next step in evolution of mankind.

11. Repug Humor...Only at the expense of others...
A side bar, does Freeper Republic even have the equivalent of The Lounge? I do not think I have seen a more humorless group of people in my life, unless you count my east coast relatives who are probably all Republican anyways!

Humor, plus the ability to laugh at myself, is what gives me strength...Frankly it is the last line of my defense against all the horrible things going on nowadays, without it my soul would be black and my attitude bleak just from being overwhelmed by the wholesale embracement of evil going on...

Another sidebar...If you have a Repuke "friend", do not share any sensitive personal information with them! They will only use it to belittle you and bully you in "conversations" where they deem it necessary to try to get you to do something they think might "improve" your life...

I'm to the point of "No Quarter" with these Republibots...

12. I think left-leaning people are generally funnier.
The only time our side gets bogged down in the humor department is when we get overly politicaly correct.

Right-wingers, on the other hand, either think the dumbest shit is funny, or have an evil sense of humor.

Probably the biggest difference is that our side understands the concept of IRONY, and we know how to use it.

13. They have gotten just too defensive to be funny
Plus, our jokes are funnier. There is so much fodder for making jokes. You don't even need to make anything up. Bush* makes his own jokes, everytime he opens his mouth. They have good reason to be defensive. They are also defensive about Michael Moore, who is brilliant and is telling the truth about what is going on in this country. So what is their intelligent and well-researched response? He is fat. You are right. I've heard this many times. Great answer.:grr:

15. We used to have this in our newspaper
As a counter to Doonesbury. I agree, it was just so lame as to be embarrassing. Which shows what kind of sense of humor, or lack of it, these bozos have.:eyes:

That would be Jon Stewart's book? They mentioned it, tonight. Apparently, there are naked photos of the Supreme Court Justices in it. Is this true?
:scared:

16. Agree they get a kick out of
things like people falling and hurting themselves. I don't mean tripping like a stooge, I've done that and laughed at myself. I mean falling and getting injured. If it's someone on their 'I hate your guts and wish you were dead' list, like we are, it's funny. Funny in that sinister way.

They suffer from arrested development. Which is what happens I suppose when you are bitter, selfish, and stubborn. You don't evolve emotionally. Democrats/liberals are constantly evolving. They aren't resistant to change. Not change of their own opinions and behaviors or other changes outside of themselves like trends.

The authoritarian personality again.

They find racist and sexist jokes hysterical. I've seen this. It pisses them off that we don't think that kind of humor is funny and they call it being politcally correct to justify resisting changing their attitudes. They don't mind getting their mental high at someone elses expense. They don't have any respect for the feelings of others. In fact if they hurt someone, crush them with a mean joke they get their rush. This is behind their outrage when they are made to feel ashamed for calling gay men faggots. They think that is funny.

Liberal thinkers have room in their minds for wit. Being witty, humorous and clever comes out when you appreciate irony. I've never met a conservative that could truly appreciate irony. They are too hypocritical to see it.

Liberals are apt to take the feelings of others into consideration. The 'other' is not the enemy of a curious mind. Liberals can have fun without it being at the emotinal expense of other people.
