Name a song with a Biblical name in the title
Either Old or New Testament. And just to keep it interesting, no using hymns or other specifically religious music.

I'll start:

Please Don't Judas Me - by Nazareth
Jesus is Just Alright With Me - Allman Brothers? Doobie Brothers? Can't remember. Can't remember the actual title of the song, either, but I think that's it.

"Jesus is Just Alright" is the title, I'm pretty sure the grammatical error is 'sic' and it's the Doobie Brothers.

59. Also by the Byrds
The latterday, more countryfied version of the Byrds did the original version of "Jesus Is Just Alright." Although I like the Byrds a lot, I do think the Doobies' cover is the superior recording.

43. Actually written for Julian Lennon
..who was 6 years old at the time. Paul wrote the song for him to help him get through his parents divorce. Of course Paul would also be accused of praying to the Virgin Mary in the song "Let It Be", when in reality he was thinking of his own late mother, Mary McCartney, who died when Paul was a teenager and just beginning his musical career.

24. Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season)
I know it's not a biblical name, but it's the first line that popped into my head when I read your post. I think it's from Psalms?
Anyway, I found this MPEG (free !) of Roger McGuinn playing it! Check it out, it's sweet:

http://www.ibiblio.org/bitcasting/

It was written by Pete Seeger, and I had the honor of seeing him last November outside the gates of Ft Benning. He made all 10,00 of us sing "Amazing Grace" with him on a beautiful Sunday morning.

44. It's not a biblical name, it's a biblical chapter!
Ecclesiastes 3
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
15 That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
16 And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.
17 I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
22 Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

49. You left out the most obvious one, "40"
Taken directly from Psalm 40

Psalm 40
1 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
9 I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
10 I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
11 Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
12 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
13 Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.
14 Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.
15 Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.
16 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.
17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

I love that album...I'm especially partial to "Yea! Heavy and a Bottle of Bread! :D

Well, the comic book and me, just us, we caught the bus
The poor litlle chauffeur, though, she was back in bed
On the very next day with a nose full of pus
Yea ! Heavy and a bottle of bread !
Yea ! Heavy and a bottle of bread !
Yea ! Heavy and a bottle of bread.

It's a one-track town, just brown and a breeze too
Pack up the meat, sweet, we're headin' out
For Wichita in a pile of fruit
Get the loot, don't be slow, we're gonna catch a trout
Get the loot, don't be slow, we're gonna catch a trout
Get the loot, don't be slow, we're gonna catch a trout.

Now, pull that drummer out from behind that bottle
Bring my pipe, we're gonna shake it
Slap that drummer with a pie that smells
Take me down to California, baby
Take me down to California, baby
Take me down to California, baby.

Yes, the comic book and me, just us, we caught the bus
The poor litlle chauffeur, though, she was back in bed
On the very next day with a nose full of pus.

46. I've Been To Canaan
Carole King

Green fields and rolling hills
Room enough to do what we will
Sweet dreams of yestertime are running though my mind
Of a place I left behind, been so long, I can't remember when
I've been to Canaan and I want to go back again

Been so long, I'm living till then
Cause I've been to Canaan and I won't rest until
I go back again. Though I'm content with myself
Sometimes I long to be somewhere else
I try to do what I can, but with our day to day demands
We all need a promised land.

Been so long,I can't remember when
I've been to Canaan and I want to go back again
Been so long, I'm living till then
'cause I've been to Canaan and I won't rest until
I go back again. Oh I want to be there in the wintertime
With a fireplace burning to warm me
And you to hold me when it's stormy

Been so long, I can't remember when
I've been to Canaan and I want to go back again
Been so long,I'm living till then.

55. The Story of Isaac
by Leonard Cohen...

The door it opened slowly,
My father he came in,was nine years old.
And he stood so tall above me,
His blue eyes they were shining
And his voice was very cold.
He said, I’ve had a vision
And you know I’m strong and holy,
I must do what I’ve been told.
So he started up the mountain,
I was running, he was walking,
And his axe was made of gold.
Well, the trees they got much smaller,
The lake a lady’s mirror,
We stopped to drink some wine.
Then he threw the bottle over.
Broke a minute later
And he put his hand on mine.
Thought I saw an eagle
But it might have been a vulture,
I never could decide.
Then my father built an altar,
He looked once behind his shoulder,
He knew I would not hide.
You who build these altars now
To sacrifice these children,
You must not do it anymore.
A scheme is not a vision
And you never have been tempted
By a demon or a god.
You who stand above them now,
Your hatchets blunt and bloody,
You were not there before,
When I lay upon a mountain
And my father’s hand was trembling
With the beauty of the word.
And if you call me brother now,
Forgive me if I inquire,
Just according to whose plan?
When it all comes down to dust
I will kill you if I must,
I will help you if I can.
When it all comes down to dust
I will help you if I must,
I will kill you if I can.
And mercy on our uniform,
Man of peace or man of war,
The peacock spreads his fan.

56. Canned "Ham"
by Norman Greenbaum...ok so I stretch it, I''ve run out !

When you gonna buy me a canned ham
I`ve been waiting so long
When you gonna buy it
When you gonna satisfy me

When you gonna buy me a canned ham

I`ve been waiting so long
When you gonna buy it
When you gonna satisfy me

I like a canned ham baby (baby)
Canned ham that`s for me
When I think about it
Sends me into ecstasy

Put it in a skillet
Fry it nice and brown
Put it in my pocket
gonna carry it around & around & around & around

When you gonna buy me a canned ham
I`ve been waiting so long
When you gonna buy it
When you gonna satisfy me

When you gonna buy me a canned ham
I`ve been waiting so long
When you gonna buy it
When you gonna satisfy me

I like a canned ham baby (baby)
Canned ham that`s for me
When I think about it
Sends me into ecstasy

Put it in a skillet
Fry it nice and brown
Put it in my pocket
gonna carry it around & around & around & around

Been waiting, I`ve been waiting so long

When you gonna buy me that canned ham Greenbaum?
Someday

61. "A Balm in Gilead"
Jerimiah, Chapter 8, Verse 22

Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

"There is a Balm in Gilead"

There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin sick soul

Sometimes I feel discouraged
And think my work's in vain
But then the Holy Spirit
Revives my soul again

If you can not preach
Like Peter
If you can not pray
Like Paul
You can tell the love of Jesus
and say, "He died for all."

72. Oops. I love that hymn, but as a hymn, it is disqualified. :-)
That was the lectionary reading last week, too - sadly, the rest of the readings were no conducive to using Balm in Gilead during worship. Sad, really.

66. "Jesus Walking On the Water"
Edited on Sun Sep-26-04 09:21 AM by gmoney
by Violent Femmes... they have several punky/folk/gospel numbers that seem very sincere. Old Gordon Gano is (or at least was) a very religical kind of guy, seems like a really repressed Catholic of some exotic pedigree.

"It's Gonna Rain" is told from Noah's perspective with sort of perverse joy that all the sinners are going to get washed out.

"Faith" rejects the worldly for the divine: "I don't believe in no car, don't believe in General Motors, Don't believe in the President, or the League of Women Voters... I believe in the Father, I believe in the Son, I believe there's a Spirit in everyone..."

70. 'Plastic Jesus'
"I don't care if it rains of freezes
'Long as I got my Plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car.
Through my trials and tribulations
And my travels through the nations
With my Plastic Jesus I'll go far.

Plastic Jesus! Plastic Jesus,
Riding on the dashboard of my car
I'm afraid He'll have to go.
His magnets ruin my radio
And if I have a wreck He'll leave a scar....."

95. SPIRIT IN THE SKY by Norman Greenbaum
:bounce:

When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best
When I lay me down to die
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best

Prepare yourself you know it's a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He's gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky
Gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky
That's where you're gonna go when you die
When you die and they lay you to rest
You're gonna go to the place that's the best

Never been a sinner I never sinned
I got a friend in Jesus
So you know that when I die
He's gonna set me up with
The spirit in the sky
Oh set me up with the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best
Go to the place that's the best
