Can someone help me with information on DSL service?

I don't use my phone very often because I use the Internet and email all of my friends and family.

My DSL line is through my phone company and I need to cut my expenses down because I am a student. Can I get a DSL line without needing to pay the phone company for a phone line?

Besides the phone company what companies offer DSL along with the basic phone line? I mean the phone line that is needed for DSL alone.Since I own my own DSL equipment will I need to purchase it again if i go with another company or is it universal?

service... In Tampa Verizon has 30 call per month service for 8.00.

I also decided to cut expenses with dsl by going to a metered phone service (25 calls/mon, and 8 cents per call afterwards). Won't save me much but now I feel virtuous....
