"Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow"
Has anyone seen it? What did you think?

This would be the first film created entirely on computer. But it does look interesting.

1. It's really, really dumb and cheesy
But I was entertained, and I had a good time.

:P

But that's not quite fair. We've had good stuff like Gosford Park, for example, in recent years.

2. I Haven't Heard Much Good About It
but I'll probably see it anyway, being a sucker for both Gwyneth Paltrow and film noir.

3. I saw it...
Plot: Rehash of Star Wars, James Bond, and Indiana Jones. Rather like Flash Gordon on dope. I was not able to suspend my disbelief. (Especially when the advert made it kinda look like it was about a whole squad, and not yet-another-one-man-saves-the-world routine.)

Characters: Cheap cardboard stereotypes. 'nuff said.

Effects: It's a video game, though for the first 15 minutes and occasionally throughout the rest, it just about looked real.

Hidden messages? Well, they had a field day revising the book of Genesis, having the leader hologram say "And God saw man's nakedness and it was good" before Gwyneth Cardboard Paltrow says that the leader thinks he's God. (Having read Genesis, that line is way off. That or the leader dude was gay. )

Acting? With the exception of Cardboard Paltrow, it's actually quite good. But Paltry's paltry ability is a downer.

Overall? If you look at a movie on the big screen and can see through the effects, it certainly won't hold up on the small screen where it's easier to spot flaws.

Indeed, the effects used in "Death Becomes Her" (1992) were infinitely more convincing, even on the small screen.

4. I saw it and it was fun
but it was aimed at like 11 to 15 year olds. It is a comic-booky show, and if you aren't expecting more than that you'll probably enjoy it. IMO :)

Dh and I gave it 3-1/2 out of 5 stars. LOL

6. I loved it
I wasn't expecting Shakespeare, I was expecting a movie serial. And I got one in spades!
