12. then again for women you would have to make it feminine so it would be
puta estupida ! Remember the adjective comes after the noun.

5. pinche means to puncture.
I need to know the context. Spanish is not my best language.

8. I used to have a few Mexicans on a crew I supervised..
I asked them what "pinche" meant, and the best they could come up with is "stupid/retarded".. definitely a slang Mexican word, not European Spanish.

10. Look up 'pinche' on this site:
http://www.notam02.no/~hcholm/altlang/ht/Mexican_Spanish.1.html

Interesting -- that may explain it, though I don't know what the 'hota' (there isn't any mainstream Spanish word that matches it) would mean.

17. From what I gather, running the phrase on Google,
by using my rusty, ancient Spanish reading comprehension skills (ain't seen a Spanish textbook since 1985), that seems to be the most common context of the phrase.

18. If he said, "Pinche Hoto"...

16. Maybe "pinche puta," which means "fucking whore" but "jota"
Edited on Sun Sep-26-04 05:25 PM by Nay
means iota or jot. "Pinche" does indeed mean to prick or puncture officially, but as an adjective/slang it means fucking or screwing. Jota, if that was what was said, means an iota or a jot, meaning a small thing. So, as slang, the person may have been saying "that fucking nonentity" or "that fucking no-account."

Just a guess, though. I certainly don't hold myself out as an expert. I will say that any native Spanish speaker whom you did not know well would NOT tell you the real meaning of "pinche" because it would be impolite and embarrassing to them and to you.

19. As a fluent Spanish speaker,
Edited on Sun Sep-26-04 06:36 PM by Fuzzy LaRue
I must say that a lot of Spanish slang can not be translated literally. As in, this word means this and that word means that. What you do is translate the the idea or concept in the context it was used.

20. Certainly this is true. This was my point with the word "pinche." And that
was the point another poster made with the word "pendejo," which actually means "pubic hair" but is the English equivalent of "asshole" if you want to call someone an asshole or a jerk. You have to go to a slang dictionary to find the slang definition, or know a Spanish speaker who will give you the straight dope.

So, as a fluent speaker, what do you think the original poster heard and what did it mean?
